Hello

I've just had some headers fitted to my 350ci '79 but when bolted up the passenger side header is TOUCHING the heater box. I'm planning on getting some thermal insulating tape to stop the header melting through the heaterbox. Anyone got any experience with this or know any good makes of insulating tape?

Thanks very much

Sam

Hi Sam, when you say it's touching the heater box, do you mean where the matrix is on the bulkhead?? Can you post up a picture of it? cheers....Nige

It's touching the bottom part of the heaterbox that holds the AC matrix, just below the condensor can. I'll post pictures in about a week.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sammy, this is a common problem on Second Gens with A/C and headers. I had 1 5/8 headers which just kissed the A/C box. I pulled them off to replade with 1 7/8 headers. These are the biggest off the shelf SBC Camaro headers you can get. Guess what I couldn't get them in. Ended up removing the matrix and half the A/C casing.

I was not using A/C on the car (T-tops) so I will be buying an A/C delete panel to go over the hole in the firewall once its fully removed.

Hooker Super competition ceramic coated headers sound and look great!!!!! but I had to jack the car up real high and remove the starter motor to get them in. I just hope when the Dart stroker goes in I don't have stroker pan clearance issues!!!
