I bought my camaro and was told the alternator needed changing as it didn't charge so a new was fitted and the volt meter in the car read about 14 volts
I got in it today and it's show less than 12 volts
Could this really be the alternator already
Any ideas?

Did you verify original alternator was at fault, don't take anyone's word for car faults ?

There are videos on YouTube showing you how to check an alternators charging ability and what to do.

I am assuming you had 14v when running but when you got in the car and it read 12v was that engine running ? you should have 13.8v - 14.2 when running at fast idle and above but when you jump in the car the next day and before you fire up you will have a sub 13v reading (fully charged lead acid is 12.8v)
