Soon enough the new carpet will be fitted into my '81 Camaro. Before the carpet goes in I was thinking about adhering some heat reflective material to the floor and perhaps firewall. Eventually the car will have a classic roots style supercharger fitted, I'm told cabin temperatures will increase massively because of this. I don't have air conditioning and wasn't planning on using it either.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is heat insulation material a good idea??

It's essential in some of the States, but I doubt it's needed in England.
I worked in Las Vegas Nevada for a few years where the road temperatures would hit 200 F (93 C) easily. That heat would reflect from the road into cars making the AC work too hard, so they put in under carpet heat insulation.
As for the supercharger the only thing that may get hotter is the catalytic convertor and the silencer, shouldn't make it into the cab.
By the way, here in Roswell it's 2PM and the air temperature is 103F (39C) with the walkway to my house at 145F (62C). :crazy:

Car Details:79' camaro road & track day toy. 383 stroker, 5 speed TKO trans, lots of suspension stuff, 13" Vette brakes, 18" wheels.

I took the standard stuff out of mine, and wished I hadn't ....
If anything I'd add more like you're thinking, it doesn't actually weight very much and makes it a nicer car to drive.

Dynamite seems to be the best and most used in the US, but I think there's other ones used by the audio bunch over here that work with heat reflection too like Silent Coat, and Dodo.

After borrowing my friends stripped out 1st gen recently I wouldn't hesitate to add anything that reduced the noise in the cabin

haha.. that's the one.. Dynamite will work as it'll make you deaf and give you 3rd degree burns so noise or heat will be the last of your worries.. :thumbup:

Have you had a roots style supercharger fitted to your engine? The American Auto specialist had a '78 Z28 in his workshop for a while and commented that the cabin temperatures become hot hence the need for air con. I believe it was Weiand 6-71.

I like the noise! I've been using mine here and there, as you can see from my refurb thread all that's in there is a dash and seat. I like the racous and rabid roar heard inside, gives even more character! :clap:

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
I wish I´d installed some kind of noise deadner when I renewed my carpet,
just left the factory rubbish in.
