Car Details:Camaro RS 5.0 1988
hi has anyone else noticed oil filters getting smaller ?
just ordered a K&N and its about half the length.
ive checked application chart and it's correctly listed (ps-2002) so ive fitted it.

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
I use these for my oil, order up several a time.

Thats basically what I used. A shorty K&N oil filter.

Car Details:1988 IROC-Z, custom interior from the 90s.
I've always used the K&N HP-2002. Looks like it'll be about the same size as the one you've just removed.
Can be had from eBay for about £14 inc. P&P - maybe not the cheapest filters but I do love the nut on the bottom!

As good as K&N are, I always thought it was good practice to fit the biggest filter the space will allow, as you'll want the largest area filtration as possible.
Mind you, alot of modern cars have teeny weeny filters.....

Did the oil change today - and as much as I love the K&N nut feature on their filters, I was cursing it today.
The garage had fitted the last one after the head work, and I guess they used a gun to tighten it.
Damn thing would not budge. Ended up rounding off the nut, despite using a socket and ratchet.
So I had to resort to the old screwdriver and hammer trick.
:lol:
Also managed to completely under estimate the rate that the oil was going to come out at - offering up a funnel to catch the oil in one hand, ratchet in the other, suddenly oils squirting everywhere! Down my arm, all over my shoulder, splashes in the face, hair...

This caused me soooo much grief, I just did´nt know where to look next for my oil overheating problem.
It may be due to the age of the part or over tightning the filter.

holly crap I have had tight filters in the past but never that tight :crazy: . I use Fram filters as they are made just down the road from me and are used State side too. Orange filters look cool too lol :mrgreen:

If it smell hot leaves black lines and uses Fuel it's working fine !!!!!!!
