Car Details:1969 SS, originally a 396, now a 350. Never having raced an American V8 before, I am not the world's expert on Camaros ! But I read Road & Track and HotRod Magazine from the early Sixties (yes, it's the only thing I can rememberabout the 60s) and always wanted one.

Also race a 1965 Alfa GTA, and drive a 1938 Lancia Aprilia and a 1922 Talbot 8.
Forumists !
The '69 Chev Camaro will race in the HSCC Historic Road Sports on the full Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone this weekend, Saturday May 18th. It will be sporting a brand-new burgundy economy paint-job as all the old paint fell off the roof at Thruxton in March. The bare metal below was not going to impress scrutineers, so I had to bring forward my paint plans. 20+ years since it last had a lick of paint.

Practise at 9 a.m., race at 1.20. I will be resuming my friendly duel with Sportsroof in his '69 Boss Mustang. We welcome any forumists who plan to be there.

It is a 2-day historic meeting with plenty of racing variety. Weather forecast for Saturday is cloudy, dry until 4pm and about 11C/12C, so typical Silverstone - old airfields are always cold.
Nick

Hi Nick! Yes, the 'performance comparison' continues. Not sure what the weather will be like, hopefully not wet as that's just no fun. It will be an interesting race, with HRS and 70's grouped together for a large grid and rolling start! Another fast circuit too, like Thruxton, hope your new paint stays on! See ya there!
Cheers, Martin

Well, I got beaten fair-and-square by Sportsroof in his 350 Mustang yesterday - Martin 8th and Chev 9th, trailing by 38 secs after 8 laps of the GP circuit. New paint job unblemished so I obviously wasn't trying hard enough ! Silverstone was cold as per normal (10C/11C all day until we left about 4pm when it started to warm up).

A good day's racing. Next outing - Brands Hatch GP circuit on July 13th/14th.

Hey Nick, yes it was a good day's racing and at the start, I thought you were going to give me a battle but you fell back, was there a problem? Mine seemed to be flying along though, not sure why. Good luck at Brands, I won't be there so one less for you to deal with!
Cheers, Martin

Martin,
No problem with the car, just the driver. The faster I tried to go, the slower my lap times ... only calmed down at the 5th lap by which time you had disappeared into the distance. On the day, you were faster ! I have to say, mixed feelings about not seeing you at Brands .... some relief as its another track that I have to learn the Camaro way, on the other hand I might be able to get a little closer to you !
Nick
