Hi Guys,

According to the US websites all 4th Gen Camaro's regardless of V6 or V8 come out of the factory limited (by fuel cut off) to 118 mph which is the speed rating for the tyres they are supplied with in the US. Now this poses a couple of questions.

1. Are the EU spec cars supplied here in the UK limited?

2. Are the US cars which people have bought here still limited?

Iv'e had mine upto the 200 klm mark on the speedo which is about 125 mph so allowing for speedo error I could have been right on the limit of it cutting out.

So, what do you guys think, or do you know different????

Japanese cars are the only ones to have the 113mph limit I can think of (apart from newer German cars at 155mph)..

I've heard about Camaros being limited before. I think it was to do with what tires they left the factory with. If they had the high spec Goodyears which most of them seemed to have then they were not limited. They did some cheap tyres as a alternative but I don't think many people opted for them.

My cars a Japanese import and I can confirm it doesn't have a speed limiter, as it has been all the way to the other side of the speedo, on a closed road ;).

Interesting about the tyres being the speed issue.

Alot of the Jap (grey) imports had their limiters bypassed when they come into the UK. I've had 2 import Mitsubishi VR4's, one was still limited 4 years after import, and the other wasn't after only a few months... I think it's quite random. My IROC certainly wasn't limited, as I saw at least 130 (on a private test track of course) from that.

That ties in with what I read. Mines a UK original i.e. US built for European market. With those nice autobahns so close it would be a bit silly to limit the car. However it was down to the tyres and what speed rating they had. If the buyer wanted the lower spec tyres at original purchase, the car was limited at the factory. Can't see many doing that though, what's the cost of tyres in an overall car purchase. I don't think there were many built specially to order for the UK market. Mine's even got the kph dial ready for the autobahn.

Owners handbook may give a clue and I suspect if the car was limited there would be a sticker somewhere. There's stickers all over the place so another one would not confuse.

Might need to check with Chevrolet in the UK, they used to have a team here that was focussed on the Chevy and Cadillac as imported from US. They would have the answer. Certainly helped to find out that my Blazer had 2 (yes two) immobilisers and one not in the wiring diagram. :?

Thanks for the post's guys, it's good to get reply's.

I have been checking my RPO codes (another issue coming shortly lol) and I found another sticker on my door regarding the original tyres shipped on my car were 215/60/16's which are the size I have on now. The only differerence is the original's were H rated with a speed limit of 100mph were as the ones I have now are V rated which I think is 125 mph. Interesting!!!

I don't think mine is limited but I haven't had it over 200klm on the speedo but the way it was pulling was awesome.

This discussion started on the US V6 website as to how fast will a standard V6 go. The answer was 118mph because they are limited which was confirmed by many replys and nobody said otherwise but nobody knew if export models were limited either.

None of this really matters it is just interesting that they print how fast and the 0-60 time for the V8's but not the V6.
