Hi,

Does anyone know of somewhere that rent car spray booths on a daily basis? I found a company (http://www.thepaintshoppros.co.uk/booth-hire/) that are in Aylesbury but that is quite a drive from me in the Purley/Caterham area of Surrey. From their website it seems to be about £180 per day, which is pretty good, although they have not replied to my email yet on details.
If anyone knows where i could rent their spray room for a day i would be very interested. I have all my own kit so would only need the room really.

Thanks in advance

Torquil

I have a friend who's just installed one in his workshop near Winchester, Hants... not really using it yet, so would do a deal I'm sure..

Hi Chevy-stu, Thanks for the reply. Winchester is a tiny bit further than Aylesbury by the map, so if i don't hear back from the rental company will definitely PM you for the details of your mate.

Kind regards,

Torquil

Just as an update to those browsing this forum, i did get a reply from the paint shop pros, but they are not fully up and running yet. I did however find this helpful chap on ebay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Paint-Booth-t ... dZViewItem

he charges 100 quid and only needs about a week's notice. i shall let you all know how it goes :-)

That ebayer seems to be offering a really good deal. I will be keeping that number.
Thanks for posting the link ,it may be what some of us need as Pro paint has become really expensive lately.

Could that be because a lot of places are switching to water based paint?

When i got a quote for paint for mine, it was 2-3 times more to have water based instead of 2k.

Cheers!

Oh, I was going to paint mine in 2k black next week. Am I not allowed to anymore or is it just a business thing?

:-)

2K paint is still readily available and is only supposed to be used on machinery and classic cars made before a specific date [that I don't know or care about if the truth be told]
2K is a much better paint system ,if the painter can't/wont help find someone better...

What i found is that some paint codes are only made in waterbase now, i.e dodge viper red. i think that's a sly way of bringing in waterbase i.e if you want x colour you have to go waterbase. I had no problem getting mercedes signal red which is a 1993 colour in 2k and the black i got (check out my paint question in the tech section) and that is 2k and just a standard black. I've read lots of good things about 2k over using waterbase but please use protection! by that i mean wear at minimum a carbon activated mouth and nose mask, (£40 about) or ideally one that covers your eyes too. 2k tends to react to water in your body so eyes are a number one spot that it can make its way into your system. If you've already painted 2k though you can ignore that bit lol but just wanted to say it rather than not, just in case.

I have a couple of mates who have a place that you may be able to rent booth in Oxford (Bicester) (havent spoke to them in a while) so feel free to give the owners Chris or Nick a shout, tell em Ray sent you. They usually take customers cars and paint, so i dont know if they rent just the booth for a day but maybe worth a try: http://candncustoms.com/#/homepage/

Cheers!

Brilliant, thanks for the replies.

I do remember using 2k with basic respiratory protection and i certainly remember feeling like cr*p for about a week afterwards, so ever since then I always spray with a full face mask and overalls. I do quite like the idea of growing old and grey with my car ;-)

Glad that it is ok to use 2k though, I would agree it is a tremendous paint system and gives a lovely finish. Thanks for the heads up with the link. I think renting spray booths is definitely the way to go, with the majority of a respray being hours of sanding, it seems like a logical thing for a competent DIYer.
