Hey guys,

Just need to get to the wiring in the steering column so i can hook up the horn wiring. I have removed the steering wheel and the nut that holds the boss, but i can't seem to get the boss off. I've given it the old leverage and hammer treatment but it won't move. Any ideas? thanks in advance :)

I always use a steering hub puller. You might be able to make one if the hub has some threads in it?

Ah of course, that would make sense :) after some reading and the help of a friend i learnt that they are put on with pressure. Goona grab these tonight i think:

While it's technically a gear puller, it looks as though it will do the trick,i hope!

ye they didnt work.
then spent some more cash at halfords trying one of these
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165469
that didn't work either.
not sure what to do?!
when you say "if the hub still has threads in it".. which part do you mean? the central nut that sticks out in the middle has the threads intact but i cant see anything else that would be threaded?

Cheers!

hm, this stoner dude has it:

but the thing i brought from halfords only comes with the centre screw. Ontop of that there are two small holes in the hub but they just look too small for any screws like the one in the vid to go into to plus i wouldn't know what thread they are so couldn't imagine how to even start figuring that out. had a look on ebay too and the only thing that came close was one that had grips like the gear puller, but the problem with the gear puller is that the centre screw is too short and stops at the grips, whereas the bolt is about 2inches further in so that's why the gear puller things don't work. any ideas?

thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray, What was the reason that the Halfrauds one didn't work?? Was it because the bolts didn't line up with the holes in the 'wheel?? Or ir just didn't come loose?

cheers..Nige

lol at halfrauds!

well that one wasnt designed for steering wheels as such, it is designed as puller for i guess brakes or something. while the engineering is the same, the bolt holes were huge and rested on the hub so had to use some small bolts that were just too weak and the nuts ended up popping off as some pressure was applied. I found a steering wheel puller from egay as you put it :) and it should be arriving today. this one threads into the small holes just outside of the main bolt in the centre of the wheel. Not sure if the thread sizes will match so here's hoping!
