Hi, i've hit upon a bit of a problem. I have a '69 P**tiac Firebird that has just failed it's MOT as it doesn't have an upper restraint on the front seatbelts. It's had lap belts in for the last 6 years and has never been a problem until now.

what do you guys do for seatbelts?

Thanks

Jack

There should be a mounting point on the roof for the upper part of the seat belt, don't you have this??

There's reference to it here:-

Hey, nothing wrong with '69 Firebirds they're welcome here, post up some pics & details  I had one as my first American car & still love 'em to this day. Don't suppose the number on your car is GCY 854L by any chance is it??

cheers...Nige

Does anybody know what the situation is regarding convertibles as my '68 convertible is due an MOT and I've heard that lapbelts are no longer acceptable but obviously there is no upper mounting for a seatbelt.

Wether you need three point belts seems to depend entirely on the tester. After speaking to a few other people including other MOT testers there is no reason why it should need 3 point belts. It's all down to enterpretation of the book.

there is some helpful convertible seatbelt info here http://firstgenfirebird.org/FAQ/interio ... belts.html about half way down the page.
