Sorry to hear dude :thumbdown:

My offer still stands to go down with you on a weekend day and do some work if he's unable to / is putting it off. Things like suspension swap require minimal tools and with 2 of us will happen pretty quick. If that's an option let me know! Hell, even easier would be to undo 4 bolts and swap the subframe straight over as designed for! Here to help :thumbup:

So the usual 1 step forward 1 step back takes place. Ran the engine for a bit, up to operating temp. No visible leaks and there's heat in the cabin so that's good.

Looked underneath and quite a lot of transmission fluid on the floor. Thought i fixed it before (by tightening one of the tube hold down clamps). Maybe that needed doing too but after some investigating while the engine was running... found a cracked pipe - the one that goes from the transmission to the radiator (cooling pipe).

It's an 8mm outer diameter pipe, and the thread measures 12.5mm outer diameter (0.5 inch) and has a double flare. Not sure if i can find somewhere to flare the pipe? And also what fitting i should buy? (BSP / NPT / NPTS etc.). It's a TH350 i think, had the stock shifter hooked up and has a TCI oil pan so could be a TCI transmission? Not sure :/ Think something like this? (just the 1 needed and in the UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Summit-Transm ... SweW5VASJW )

Also found the paint is very soft. After leaning against the fender that was cut, polished and waxed (which has a plastic sheet over it now) loads of scratches where i had been leaning against. wtf. When i work on the 3rd gen and lean against the fender with nothing over it, no scratches or anything, even when it hasn't been washed in a while and has dirt on it.

Nice find! Didn't realise they made them, even better that they're in stainless! I have larger radiator in mine and also have a transmission cooler, so unfortunately the stock lines won't fit. What i'm hoping to find is something like the one in the bottom of the pic, that has the correct size fitting and a double flare, i can then bend it up to match: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Summit-Transm ... I used to have hard line and rubber hose, the connections do tend to "weep".
Maybe those won´t as the tube ends have that "doughnut" at the end.

There's adapters screwed into the side of the transmission, once you have unscrewed them the threads are 1/4" NPS from memory. You can buy adapters to convert to AN style hoses, which I what I've done on all of my transmissions as it's easier than hardline.

The hard line fittings are 1/2" unf invertered flare, the nuts are hard to find over here, but you can reuse the old ones and make yourself some new lines from copper microbore pipe.

Thanks for the advice, i noticed there seemed to be another fitting after removing, wasn't sure if that was factory or done by previous owner.

Good point about reusing the fitting. It's a bit worn where someone used an incorrect size spanner but should be reusable for one time. Seems to be impossible to get one here in the UK. The only issue then is to get the line double flared. AN would be an option but here's the thing... i will be going over to a manual transmission later in the year, so don't want to spend a load of cash on hoses and fittings.

If someone has some double flared 8mm (5/16) pipe, about 16" in length then i'll gladly have it off them :)

I guess, i have 2 options?
1) Find somewhere nearby that can double flare some 8mm pipe, then i just slip on the existing fitting (great idea!) and bend to shape (i have a pipe bender and put together stainless steel fuel lines with it, so i'm ok with that part).
2) Purchase one of these (reuse the fitting):

It's a bit of an inexpensive tool but i bought the £20 ones before and took them back the next day as they broke. It then means i have the ability to create any pipes that i want in future, like replacement brake lines etc.

This is going well. I like flakmonkeys idea of reusing the old fitting, so i'm just trying to find somewhere that will do just 1 thing... double flare a piece of 8mm line, steel / copper, whatever. Sounds pretty simple., how hard can it be? Pretty hard apparently. Calling around the industrial estate and the closest i got was Pirtek saying that i'd need to bring the line in so they can check, as they only have certain sized flaring tools. Not sure why they couldn't check over the phone which ones they have, so that's a 50/50. Based on last time they quoted me, it will probably be cheaper for me to buy all the high end end tools and fittings and getting them UPS'd overnight from the U.S.

I called Frost restoration to ask if the tool they carry, labelled as "popular" was the Eastwood one, and they said no, it's from the far east, thought as much. Don't want to buy any soft crackable metal tools when it comes to fittings. Then again, i wonder if it's the same manufacturer that Eastwood use and relabel it? I doubt they make any of their own tools. So maybe it is the same one?
