Hey ho, still looking for a super clean Iroc Z28 as original post....without a tow bar or any other similar optional extras! ;)

When i first started going to US car shows I noticed many had tow bars as lots of owners liked the idea of taking a caravan to stay in for the whole weekend. I'm guessing most people camp instead now, so the tow bar thing died off maybe, but it was very common on yanks and Hot Rods a few years back.
I had a tow bar on mine, as I was between vans for work, as I was only needing the extra size once a month or so barely used it. I small box trailer came up very cheap that did the trick, so had a tow bar fitted and used it for maybe a year, until I needed a van again.

Good luck with the search.

Look at this way - if anyone is to drive into you from behind, at least a tow bar means the damage to the bumper skin (which'll be a PITA to replace/repair) will be minimal, and they're likely to come off worse.
My old MX6 had a tow fitted, and I left it on for that reason.
Thinking about it, it would explain a lot about that gearbox...

I never had a probs with the 700r4 until I put 355 bhp behind it. Like the guys say it's hardly going to have been used to tow a caravan every weekend, more likely a car show once in a blue moon. Dropping an opportunity for something as trivial as that is just silly.

Not slating the fellas car as everyone has there own tastes and ideas and needs etc, but if I am going to spend 5k plus of my hard earned $$ then it has to tick a lot more than 1 box. For me personally its the wrong colour, no T-tops, has a tow bar, manual windows, possibly no A/C blah blah blah. I dont think that's trivial or silly, just having a criteria of what I want/like , I don't care how rare it is....

Good to see the extra photos, someone's obviously made enquiries. Quite a basic spec as you'd expect. I think my car has twice as many RPO codes! :D Seems to tally though, even has JG1 (ally propshaft). Interesting exhaust too. I think ILE cars came standard with the N10 dual exhaust system (which is visible on the RPO code sticker). Either he's lost a tail pipe or it's had an after market system fitted! :lolno:

Camaro76: Fair point, hence my comment that the ILE spec cars are something that would only appeal to certain enthusiasts. It's a shame it's not a standard 90-92 Z28 because these don't appear very often. The last one I saw for sale was bought by someone on Pistonheads, a nice black 1991 Z28 350. The next thing I know it turned up on here with the front smacked in and Rocky breaking it for parts :(

hello James, I made the enquiry, just an email asking how long he`d owned it to see if it was a trader trying to shift something on. This was the response;

"I have kept the car as standard as possible, it does have K&N air filters, chip and better coil & leads. I have the original coil & leads & chip. It has a cat back exhaust system. It has dual cats but I have removed the inards. It does not affect emissions at the MOT due to the car being 1991.
I do have the original exhaust system that came off the car.

The engine is the better 5.7L V8 and the gearbox is a TH700r4 (with overdrive and lockup convertor), it has done 71018 miles. It has a limited slip diff and 4 wheel disk brakes. I put on a towbar but it can easily come off if you did not want it.

I have kept a folder of all the info on 1LE cars, what I have used it for, receipts, MOT's, all paperwork etc. There is a 2in thick factory manual as well.
I have owed the car for about 13 years and brought it to drive while I did up my 68 Camaro, which has been completed about 3 years now. The 91 Camaro does not get used now so it really needs to go to a better home.

It has an MOT and is on SORN as I do not use it
."

The car I broke wasnt a 1LE going by the specs. And had been damaged a few times before I got it. but the guy I got it off paid £6.5k I think.
To fit a tow bar bits will have to be drilled including the rear absorber bar which if a rare car would have to be changed out for me to look standard. But going by mileage etc still seems a good deal to me.

Hi bigkieko, thanks for passing on the info.

Sorry Rocky i meant it's unusual to see 90-92 cars full stop, rather than ILE spec. maybe it wasn't the same car because it was for sale for £5k and I think the buy on Pistonheads paid just under that.

Hi James, I think it was the same one you saw on Pistonheads was a nice car just a shame the guy lost control of it.

How about this one just seen it so have not made any enquiries yet?
