insurance is definitely crazy these days. I cant get a sensible quote from anywhere on a 1996 1.6l escort cabriolet. Cheapest £950 up to £5,500 from some places. I only paid £470 last year for the camaro. Im just awaiting my renewal from adrian flux. Im a year older (now 26) with another years no claims so fingers crossed its a decent price.

Having problems with Adrian Flux. I've got a Cobra Alarm on my car CAT1. 5 or so years old. Not on Adrian Fluxs Thatcham database.

What a lot of bull. Might have to cancel my policy with them and find someone else. Think they will only insure me with a CAT1 fitted.

Update, sorted. If your with adrian flux and ever have problems email ashley.pearce@adrianflux.co.uk

He said Thatcham took it off there list in January this year, typical! However he's had a word with a manager and they've added the Alarm to there database.

Bit of a faf but the next quote I had was £500 more so it was worth it!

S'all very strange.

I had a challenge with my Chevy Blazer. Story goes,

When Chevrolet imported the truck in 1999 the ABI (Association of British Insurers) apparently insisted on THATCHAM 1 alarm. Chevy therdefore fitted the THATCHAM 1 alarm alongside the US alarm, as they arrived at Soton docks.

I had the car for 9 years plus and then had electonic immobiliser issues. 3 recoveries by low loader. All dealt with by a UK breakdown company. Conclusion, car worked fine if you bypassed the UK immobiliser, apparently 1 piece of wire sorted that out.

It turned out that the UK THATCHAM immobiliser had failed, with no replacement parts available. US systen still working fine.

However, UK insurer had issues with the lack of UK system

So had to insure as not having THATCHAM 1 system.

Makes sense, no, did I have to live with it, yes!

It's a pain but shop around and decide on what is acceptable to you. Underwriters will decise on individual cases so be clear and know what you are prepared to pay.

All part of this great hobby!!!!!!!!!!

I've not had a good day (someone has had much pleasure kicking my treasured camaro in) so now seems like a good time to remind myself my yearly insurance quote is £2,400.00 TP F & T.
Oh the joys of being 21 and having the only Camaro in the village! Jealous sods!

Perhaps when I'm 26 (and petrol has run out) the premiums may become a bit more affordable!
:)

For what it's worth I use R H Specialist, used them for ten years with no problems. Currently insure my 70 for fire and theft only whilst rebuilding it for £31 a year. Daft not to at that price and thats in a garage at an address different from my home address.

Well after paying £470 fire and theft with adrian flux last year my renewal came in at £530 with another years no claims on top. However even tho its a 1997 model adrian flux said that they would put it on a classic policy for me fully comp, windscreen cover etc etc for £240. And as it doesnt use or require any ncd, i still have my 3 years ncd to use on another vehicle if i need to.
Might be worth the 21 year old above trying to put his 4th gen on a classic policy rather than paying thousands out.

Hi,

I'm the 21yr old from up ^ : )

I've spoken to Adrian Flux on your advice... the policy I have is already a classic policy of sorts (my previous car was a 1974 Landy) and the policy was just amended for the Camaro. Apparently it's a classic 4x4 policy which only offers minimal discount for the chevy. I have been told no insurers with A.F will consider the car for a classic car policy. It's worth saying A.F are the brokers and I believe the policy to be with LV.

I am also restricted on who will provide insurance for me due to my age and my occupation (delivery driver - chevy not used for business obviously).

Looks like I've got a few years before the premium becomes a bit more normal!

Andy

No one will consider it for classic policy?? thats strange as its adrian flux that offered it to me when they couldnt bring an everyday use policy down to reasonable level. Its Equiity red star through A.F brokers. Im also delivery driver, but as work have put my official job title as 'porter' even though i do the driving too, it doesnt make any difference to my insurance.
As it stands im unable to take them up on the policy just yet as work have just started laying people off so im holding back putting the camaro back on road as moneys a little tight at home and im not sure my jobs 100% safe yet.
It might be worth trying for a normal classic policy or classic sports car policy, rather than classic 4x4. Even for a 21 year old £2500 is excessive price.

At 19 yrs old (6 1/2 years ago now, bloody hell time flies :o ) I had a 1978 7.5litre big block Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with around 380bhp and that was only £400 fully comp through A.F for an everyday policy compared to the £1100 i was paying for a 1.1litre rover metro at the time.
The insurance industry makes no sense to me as im pretty sure a young lad can do a lot more damage with that power, sheer size and weight than he could in a tiny little toy car like the metro so why the huuuuge drop in price. As i said above 26yrs old on 1.6 escort 3yrs ncb £995, Almost a 4litre camaro using no ncb £240. Ridiculous!!!

Well, my insurance is due for renewal 1st August so have been doing all the rounds again with all the companies I tried last year plus a couple more and I have been pleasantly surprised that my current insurer A-Plan came out on top again without any haggling. My premium this year is only £1 pound more than last year at £189.64 which I thought was pretty good. So it's A-Plan for me.
