Today I've been prepping the hood hinges, & various brackets for paint. After a bit of effort they came out quite sweet. I painted them satin black to match in witht he rest of the engine bay. I've just got to decide now wheterh to paint the underside of the hood satin black as well or to do it body colour

As the car's now nearing completion, it's time to turn to the interior. The new headliner, sail panels & parcel tray were fitted ages ago, before the roll cage went in. The car came with interior door & 1/4 panels, but they were badly worn, so when I was out in the States I went to NPD & bought their basic trim package, which consists of 2 door trims & both rear 1/4 panel trims. these come unassembled & without various trim items attached to the panels, but as I already have those it's no problem & it's cheaper to buy this way. Here's the panels & weather strips before assembly, so now it's off up the garge to put them altogether, cheers.....Nige

Finished assembling all of the interior trim panels by fitting the door caps, stainless trim & making the holes for the electric windows (yep, came fitted witht them from the factory ;) ). The panel comes with indents in them to drill & fit the stainless mouldings, if ever you do one of these, check that the indents are in the right places. On mine they were almost 1/4" out at one end, which would have made the moulding out of square with the pleats in the door. :o :o
cheers.....Nige

Hi Alan, you're more than welcome to park up next to mine & I'm sure yours won't look like an old dog in comparison, as I said elsewhere on here about mine, quote- "To be honest, it will look fairly good, but it's built to be a driver, not a show car. I'm sure that there are cars out there that will have far more of a wow factor than mine will. I've deliberately "down played" the look of the car to a point where it should just look like a nice original car with a set of alloys".
It'd be good to see two red/black striped cars parked together, it'd make a good photoshoot ;) :D Looking forward to seeing yours when it's finished, cheers.....Nige

Continued with the airbox I was making today. Once the car's run in I intend to fit the twin 4 barrel crossram intake, the down side of this is that it won't clear the inner skin of the hood. I decided to trim out the parts that would foul on the crossram & weld in new metal to put the strength back. here's how I did it. As you can see from this pic the inner hood skin gets in the way quite a bit

Image

I marked out where it needed to be trimmed & then cut it out with a cutting disc. I had to make two cutouts in the inner skin to accomodate the crossram airfilter.

Once they were trimmed out, I took cardboard templates of the shapes needed & then transfered this to some sheet steel. I had to make two infill panels for the cutouts, made from two pieces each. The two pieces of steel were welded together first on the bench & then tack welded into place on the hood.

Once tack welded & happy with the fit I welded them in fully.

This was then ground down ready for a little bit of filler to smooth it all off

Filler in progress, I'll finish this off tomorrow ;)

plenty of room

I'm going to make an insert with a round hole in it to fit to the airbox when I run a single 4bbl to seal it to the hood, that way I can run either a single carb or the crossram with 2 4 barrels & still seal it from the hot underhood air ;) cheers....Nige
