The two cars I miss the most are my first car - a Peugeot 205 GL, nicknamed 'Faith' as that's what she was running on after a gaiter on the front drive shaft let go somewhere near Manchester on the M6, and she lost all the grease. Instead it filled up with water (it was raining) and got me to Glasgow where a mechanic went a bit pale when he saw what had happened and how far I'd driven on the motorway doing 70.

After that was a diesel Ford Escort. Joyless.
Then a Honda Accord Aerodeck. Roomy, punchy 2.2l, but a little soulless. Bit of a trooper actually. Kind of miss it.
Then an MX-6 came along...





She was good fun actually. Shame about the design flaws, like no cooler for the transmission. Terrible habit of the auto box letting go. Interestingly (for some, maybe) the Ford Probe equivalent did come with a trans cooler up front.
Nursed her north with a gearbox that refused to hold a gear for very long, to trade her in for the RS.

Haven't looked back.

great pictures and history just what this thread needs

we all have owned an old banger at some time some of us more than most some of us even persist with owning them but however bad they are we have all learned how to keep the buggers going ,finely tuned our senses to pick up a new squeak ,rattle, knock, rumble or smell and given us the experience to keep our beloved camaros alive today and the determination to improve on the old rather than to rely on new souless shiny motors (unless its a camaro)
i have friends that have only ever owned new cars and they dont even know how to check the oil ,spend thousands on repairs because they didnt pick up on a new noise or smell that would have saved them the hassle
so lets celebrate all the old bangers still out there teaching future generations to keep them going far longer than they should do
keep posting those old motors you miss how ever dreadful they may be the ss eagle kit car i owned was truly dreadful it was cramped, smelly,damp because the gullwing doors leaked and you bumped your head on the windscreen every time you leant forward but would i have it back????? yes because it looked cool and had bags of character
so go on join in the celebration of all those missed vehicles that shaped our lives and made us what we are today

If anything, my car ownership has taught me to know the limits of my mechanical knowhow and hand it over to a trained mechanic who know's their onions!

you cant be that limited as i see you are thinking of overhauling your electric windows most people wouldnt know were to start long live the banger
