Where are you based mate? I have efilive so can scan the codes for you. Is the car stock under the bonnet? Does it go into limp mode, or just throw a code?
If it doesnt go into limp mode, then its usually not a major issue. But its worth scanning it to check. If you have aftermarket exhaust etc then its likely the O2 sensors complaining. Thats the most common problem. Also check the throttle connection its a bit loose at the best of times, so if you have been cleaning or a new intake etc it might not be making a sound connection.
As above there is nothing magic about the late models. They just use sensors for feedback to the ECU and if one doesnt act as GM expect it can throw a code. This is virtually guaranteed if its been modified from stock. The person doing the mods would normally tune out the variation so as to not throw a code, but its not unusual for this not to have been done, or at least not done properly
The scan tools are a pretty reasonable tool to add to the toolbox with the late model cars.
