Hi Guys,

Iv'e been looking and reading about the simple mod to get a bit more air into the engine by removing the intake silencer baffle between the filter box and the TB and replaceing it with a straight piece of tube. Has anyone here done this and was it of any advantage or does it just sound "faster"/ better. There doesn't seem to be a fantastic ammout of airflow upto the filter intake but I'm sure GM knows more about it than I do. There's also a mod to cut out the bottom of the filter box to allow more air up through the filter but iv'e read that just makes the filter dirtier quicker.

I don't speak from experience with Camaros but if you increase the intake flow then you will need to increase the outflow i.e. the exhaust otherwise you are creating more heat in the engine, more efficient combustion etc, but not allowing the heat to escape quicker. You may also need some engine re-mapping. I'm sure that there is someone with experience of doing this but I would suggest not doing it until you've worked out what exhaust you may need to match.

I already have the Magnaflow Cat-Back exhaust upgrade so I have no problems there. In fact that is why I was looking into this Intake modification to balance the two out better. Also from what I have read, because of all the imission controls and all the sensors, the computer can "learn" to accept these changes and change the settings as required and by disconecting the battery for 10 mins and then installing it again it can also re-set everything.

It seems to be very popular in the US but I was just trying to find out if anyone had done it here. By the lack of responce I guess not. Anyway I can always put it all back if it doesn't work out.

done it on mine. Tbh its only a small addative modification, and will net you a whole HP if that, I did it as the pipe looks better than the bellow thingy

I appreciate that the power increase is minimal it was just to try and balance the engine out now that I have the Magnaflow exhaust on. Now if the engine is not suffering and the exhaust has not changed any of the computer settings regarding the emissions then thats Ok but if it is "starving" itself of air I thought it was an easy thing to do.

a k and n filter and a SLP or similar intake lid for the V6 would be worth it, I assume the V6 has that big plasic baffle thingy as standard?

Mine being a 1999 it has the lid type filter housing with the silencer bafflels before the throttle body. I plan on installing the K & N filter as they are much better and a "one time" deal but I am still thinking about removing the baffles.
