Looks like a 79...this is based on the grille. If you get a chance take out the back seat or pull up the carpet on the driver's side. There should be a broadcast sheet there somewhere that will give you the exact date your baby was born (and where)...

Thanks for the info Dana. I am not likely to find a build sheet as the interior has been ripped out by a previous owner and the fuel tank has been dropped in the past.

I am just assuming its an 80 based on the reg doc and VIN

The start of the VIN is 1P87KAN

Got the core support off yesterday afternoon, rust about what I expected. Gave it a quick wire brush with the angle grinder.

Passenger side mount was completely shot, as was quite a lot of the lower sheet metal









And these were the bushes



Nice...

Cut all of the rot out completely. No point messing about The painted all the insides with POR15



It took all day today to repair it all, and it now looks a bit like a Franken core support

I'm impressed with the way you are getting through all of these challenges. Can't be much that you haven't got at now so hopefully there will be no more surprises.

The end result will I'm sure be worth it.

I've found it a labour of love slowly getting things right I've still got a list as long as yours to finish off, but if you get as much enjoyment as I have with mine you'll be a happy chappie. All the best keep us up to date

Today has mostly been a painting day. Painted up the core support, impact beam and a few other bits with POR15

Decided to dismantle the impact beam which wasn't too bad, wire brushed it and scuffed it up with a soft pad.





And 2 coats of paint



Same with the battery tray






Also swapped a rear wheel over to see what 225 tyres would be like on the front. The sidewall sits about 2mm outside the arch.



Would prefer them to be better tucked in, but lack of money precludes buying new rims for the forseeable future. If these 225 from the rear will be OK then I will just get some widers tyres fitted to the current front rims as the tyres are perished that are on there anyway. Probably go for 255's in the back, need to have a measure up when it stops raining....

That front impact section behind the bumper looks way heavy... What do you reckon the weight of it is ?

Thanks Biff... makes fitting a new exhaust eaiser if I dont need to make hangers.

Stu - The complete thing? Its all 1/8" plate reckon it weighs about 45kg or so. Can shift it on my own but its awkward.

It looked very chunky.... I think quite alot of the US guys leave it off because of that... you'd have to be quite brave about parking up and trusting other drivers
