Hey all,

I need to plug a couple of leaks in the t-tops before winter sets in.
What does everyone tend to use?
Is there anything which isn’t too sticky, messy etc?

Do you know why they are leaking?. Is it because the seals are worn or damaged. Or is it that the drainage chanels in the weather stripping are blocked and the water is backing up because it can't escape quick enough.

I cleaned all mine out with a thin plastic rod and then flushed them with water, it was suprising the crap that came out. I have had no problems with mine thankfully.

There is an answer that someone else on this site has tried, pasted in below.

"This worked on an old MR2 T top I had.:

Take off the offending T top. Put some black silicon sealant on the rubber where it's leaking. Cover it in clingfilm so it is not going anywhere you don't want. Replace the top in position and leave until it dries, then remove the clingfilm. This should create a better seal than the tired rubber. You can't really see it unless you're looking either.

Myself, I've had no leaks. First and foremost find where the leak is coming from - I'd try Gerry's idea first.

The rubber looks OK as far as I can tell, I think it may be a drainage problem now I think about it!
Particularly a problem when there is snow sitting on the roof, when it melts it comes in worse than usual.
I'll have a closer look, if it ever stops raining!!

I got some special stuff from germany. It was called Gummi Pfledge Stift. it comes in a small pot with a sponge applicator head. After about 3 treatments with this, my T-Tops stopped leaking

I believe I’ve found the problem, checked it with the hose and all dry so far, just waiting for it to rain again!!
There is a small ‘flap’ of rubber on the weather stripping at each end of the t-tops on the roof weatherstripping, about 5mm in size.
When you put the t-tops back on, these ‘flaps’ should remain on the outside, providing an overlapping seal for where the t-top weather stripping meets.
Now, my leaks were at the two sides where these ‘flaps’ were pushed in when I put the roof back on, so I just need to remember to hold these two ‘flaps’ out when I put the roof back on so they are on the outside to form the seal.
So obvious, can’t believe I didn’t see this before!!
