Isnt that new cars?
I do agree you can set up a good car with standard bits but dont agree that its better than after market bits, we did loads of research into setting up the perfect 3rd gen which we have found uses some modified original and some aftermarket bits.
Im going to keep building show cars as its what I always wanted to do. its about being individual and yes I do like some bling bits,
We have found ways around the current laws so until the new laws come in Im not going to worry about it.

This could be more doom & gloom  possibility of black boxes being fitted to cars

cheers.....Nige
That's one thing I did know about, being new cars information is bantered about by the general press, and the likes of RAC, AA etc :)

At the moment yes, but if you read the thread & links, there are growing concerns that it could be retrospectively fitted to older cars too.

cheers...Nige

Car Details:68 pontiac firebird coupe project car,my aim is a street friendly, lightly modified pro.touring style.
Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle, disc front drum rear.
68 firebird convertible ( long term project) Stock resto/mod style ,400 pontiac th350
Just to take a break from all the doom and gloom I've been reviewing some old articles by Herb Adams ,and Guldstrand and the stuff they were doing back then is making more and more sense to me at least.
Come to think of it Penske seemed to do alright without Baer brakes ,DSE arms ,CalTracs, and not a coil -over in sight
Have to agree with Nige that lately some of the "over-modified '' cars showing up are merely bling for the sake of bling ,or maybe just a way of demonstrating how fat the owners wallet is...
As for me I'll be going a bit more '' old skool '',maybe not so bad after all....

Looking through the May issue of an MOT testers magazine, there's an article that shows "some" of the forthcoming changes for 2012.

I noticed that there are three items that are coming into force that could affect modified cars. One is to check for "Inappropriate brake system repairs or modifications" as shown on this page

Image

The others being "inappropriate steering repairs or modifications"
& for "inappropriate suspension repairs or modifications" found on this page

Obviously it depends on how you define "inappropriate", but any car that has lets say a rack & pinion steering fitted, as opposed to a steering box could be deemed to have been "modified". The same I would assume could be said of aftermarket brakes & suspension mods.

Could this be a pre cursor to the possibility of much stricter MOT's that have been mentioned as possibly coming into force??

Cheers....Nige
