The lead was then filed down to shape on the drivers side.

The hinge panel was also badly perforated due to the vinyl roof clips having caused it to rust.

The drivers front fender only had a small amount of rust on the bottom, so I cut it out & welded in some new steel, which was then leaded, epoxy primed & primed with a tinted 2k primer.

The front clip had already been sandblasted to bare metal, so it was a simple case of priming b& painting satin black

"Pink makes the boys wink".  I tinted the primer as it gives a good base for the top coat colour to lay on, in this case red. The tinter was red as well, but once added to the primer it turns this gay, Barbie looking colour. By tinting the primer, the coverage of the top coat colour is better.

The lead isn't a pure lead as such, more of a lead/tin mix. It was the process that bodymen used to repair cars back in the days before bodyfiller was invented. It was used on all of the body seams to give a water proof seal on the joints, or to repair any accident or rust problems. I used it because I find it's a better way to repair something that I want to last indefinitely, without worrying about the repair shrinking, letting in moisture from behind, rusting again or cracking. I feel that it's just doing the best I can to repair it "correctly".

Here's a link to show how it's done

Here's a video of it being done

hth ;) Cheers.........Nige

Excellent links. That e-type didn't look as though there was much wrong with it though. I watched it without sound (because I'm at work) so perhaps I missed something important.

I'd love to give that lead loading a go when I get a chance.
