1991 5.0 V8 automatic engine trouble?
Whilst driving at around 40 mph the other day the engine cut out and only the electrics where left working. lucky I pulled into a side road and tried to start the engine several times, it was trying but it sounded like it had ran out of fuel. after waiting to be rescued (abt 15 mins) I started the engine and worked first time.

prior and post to this the car on occasion shudders a bit when I put my foot down but is fine other times.
(new fuel filter needed?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to American cars

Change the fuel filter first as its cheap and should be changed regularly anyway but it sounds like your fuel pump. How much fuel did you have in the car.

Thanks. Around 1/2 a tank, fuel filter acquired going to put it on this month, and give it a service.

Hmmm sounds more like ignition wires, they are pretty dodgy on these things, try putting some conductive grease in the boots, that should solve it.
