So with these crate motors in the Uk - who has experience of the service ? Did anyone use British American Engines ? I've looked at their site and may be interested in getting them to build something, but I'll be talking to Jimmy at Valley Gas near me first as I know he builds top engines ....
Any first hand experience very much appreciated as always ...

Hi

I've only reviewed their website, but they sound impressive. But your local guy may be good as well.

I'll be listening to see if anyone has been to them.

Thanks everybody for your help so far ... you have all provided me with so much info that I think I have changed my mind radically on what I actually want for the Camaro ....talking with the misses as well, I think I really want a Camaro that looks original (ie no wide-body kit) but drives like a modern super car; easy but fast; I think so far I am now favouring the route of a serious crate motor installation ... probably an LS3 or LS7 conversion with a modern auto box and diff ... ie a 2006 - 2008 Corvette ZO6 drivetrain throughout, around the 450 - 505 hp mark.
I'm still wondering though, as regards the Firebird, has anyone here ever had the experience of being in a car fitted with a heavily modfied sbc with an Inglese Weber Induction System 48 IDAs? just out of interest ????? Once bitten, never forgotten !!!
I will shortly be putting the Firebird up on eBay and Autotrader; bearing in mind the Inglese/Weber induction system on this thing would cost you >£3500 alone new (just the intake manifold and carbs) I think a reserve of £2500 for a car of 24k miles with these engine, suspension and brake mods and full history to date is pretty reasonable ... Thoughts quickly please ? !! Is that reasonable ?

The full corvette drivetrain will be tricky. I think there is someone in the states who has done it but it needs massive amounts of fabrication. You'd probably be looking at an IVA based on the points system, not sure though. You'd probably be best off sticking with a live rear axle.

There are plenty of options for 3rd gen suspension upgrades, I really don't think you need to go the complete Corvette route.

I would love to get my hands on a car with an Inglese induction system, the throttle response must be awesome. If you have the original induction system, why not put that back on, and sell the Inglese seperately?

You are not wrong, the throttle response from the Inglese setup has to be experienced to be believed ...
As for the Camaro it does appear the whole Corvette drivetrain is a step too far, but engine / autobox doesn't require that much modification to fit in does it ?

A funny thing comes with the Inglese system - a little plaque to put on the dash in front of the passenger, photo attached...

Best of luck with the sale, I got in touch with someone who I thought might be interested but he's now bought something else. Like to see some pics of that manifold set up though

cheers...Nige

Will try to get some photos at the weekend depending on weather ....
Have just had to buy a new battery for the Camaro as well as after 5 days charging I realised the old one is caput ... there's the first £220 of the renovation !!!
So hopefully will post a sound off clip at the weekend too !!!
May even try to start up the Firebird after turning it over by hand ...
