To be honest it's hard to put a price on a bare metal repaint on something like this. The main problem is knowing what the condition of the car is under the paint. Every repair that the car has ever had previously has to be redone. The car will need to be dismantled, removing doors, glass, boot, bonnet, trim, lights, bumpers etc etc to do it properly, which in itself is a lot of work. Then of course you have to strip the car to bare metal, either chemically or blasted.

Most bodyshops wouldn't give you a price per job, you're more likely to be given a price per hour, as they don't know what they're likely to encounter when it's all stripped. The minimum price of £5K is being very optomistic, you'd be better budgeting around the £8-10K mark. Again this depends on who does the work & how much they charge per hour.

Sorry for the doom & gloom, but it's better to be aware of the pitfalls with something like this. Costs can spiral when undertaking something like this, you could end up with a car costing up to £30K. For that sort of money you could buy something like my '69  :lolno:

cheers...Nige

Iroc convertible
Custom airride, SLP exhaust, 20" Iroc rims, Mini tubbed, Everything new or uprated.
Corvette C6 Z06 Brakes,
Procharger on the way.

Our bare metals start at £3.5k but if its had poor prep before like evilzee28 said you could have more work to do, We are doing a proper bullnose pro tourer at the moment which looked ok when it came in but nearly every panel has or will be replaced and full new suspension axle brakes engine etc with something like that its just pay as we go with the customer, to fit his massive rear wheels we have got to custom fit alot of bits so its by the hour as you cant put a price on jobs like that.

thanks mate I finally picked it up today - I had the paint looked at professionally - its not bad at all - bloke who told me all that actually put a bid in against me for the car (you live and learn)

Its perfect - just got home, sitting in (all) of the garage. Will take many pics and start posting by Saturday.

I am thinking ultimately Yenko/Motion tribute look perhaps? Need to get the alloy all polished up first in the engine etc and get it very clean first.

Feel as excited as when i got my first car and that was 30 years ago.

Personally like the butchness of the Baldwin cars, with the backend painted. Some of the Baldwin cars had the stripes down the centre & the SS hockey stick on the sides. If you need the SS hockey stick, I've got a brand new decal kit for it for sale.

I take it you've seen this place??

I didn't go the Yenko/Baldwin route with mine

Im no expert on Camaro's specifically, but it does seem to me the Owner is hanging on to the fact that its been a cover car in its life, I looked at bringing one in from the states last year on a 68 that looked as good as the one youre looking at in the mag but with more engine work, converted the value in sterling was £17.5k, given you need to import it and get it to uk mot condition Yod be looking around £3k for that, so thats £20500.00 landed and on the road. Based on that alone and the paint as advised above, I would think that £21k would be the absolute Max, again Im no expert, if it were me i'd be looking at £18k to £20k. That said, a car is worth what YOU want to pay and you have to base the spend on what you have available to get the car to the position that YOU are happy with. If thats within your budget, then buy the car. If not then keep looking, but whatever you do dont fall in love with your eyes closed. Simples.
Russ.
