It seems that ehre might be a shortage of certain American tyres. There may also be a shortage of drag radials & slicks in this country as M&H, Hoosier & Mickey Thomson are not compliant to the new laws.

i just want tough looking tyres with white writing... if a manufacturer can do those to law spec, i'm happy. not sure what the general consensus on here is about tyres?

To be honest, the white lettered tyres really are crap for performance. It's like driving with banana tyres on in the wet, especially if they're wide too. I tend to favour Yokohamas or Avons as they give exceptional grip & are long lasting. What do the rest of you think??

I used to run Coopers and BFG's years ago, but wouldn't touch em now.. Most of the Japanese tyres are so hugely better from a safety and performance perspective. It does effect me, but it seems getting anything decent in 15" size is tough now..

first set i've ever had are the ones on mine, they are Eagle i wana say, will check tonight. the guy said it's a bit shifty in the wet. the tread looks standard, not sure what really sets tyres apart. i know compound makes a difference, but never really understood how tyres can differ so much. i may, if the car ever goes on the road (renewing the SORN this month ) burn these ones out if they're flakey and go for some better known ones and white letter detail them. did that on my jeep and worked really well.

Hi

I'm interested to hear the thoughts of you guys and need to change mine sometime, however, I'm on the original 16" rims. What do you recommend as the best choice when upgrading, 17" or 18" I know it's a bit like "how long is a piece of string" and I've seen the previous threads on here.

My Zee is a 2000 model - would the equivalent Corvette rims work, at the right size|?

The thing with tyres is, is that there's just sooooo many variables in the manufacturing process & design, that define what makes a good tyre or a bad one. American tyres have a very high PAH content which means there's a lot of aromatic oils in the rubber compound. This is what makes them smoke so much during a burnout. It's because of this high PAH percentage, that the new law has been introduced to ban non compliant tyres.

The Yokohama tyres on mine barely make any smoke at all when they "accidentally" spin up, but they grip a gazillion times better than any Yankie rubber, which instills confidens when pushing hard into corners.
