The front screen aperture wasn't quite as bad as the rear, but still required the rusty metal to be cut out & replaces with new steel.

Once the new steel was totally seam welded, the repairs were then lead loaded & filed down to the right contours prior to priming. lead loading is a bit of a dying art these days, with people happy enough just to use body filler for their repairs. In the good old days, before filler was used extensively, lead or body solder was used to carry out repairs. The benefits of using lead are that it won't shrink (whereas filler could with time) or allow water to penetrate from behind, so a repair could last indefinitely without ever coming back to haunt you. The pics show the lead applied to the roof & then of it taking shape as it's filed down Cheers... Nige

The drivers side rear 1/4 was a repeat of the passenger side. cheers.......Nige

Ain't it always the way Are you gonna take pics as they work on it? Make sure they itemise EVERYTHING they're gonna do to it before they start & get a firm price for it, that way they can't add to the list & charge you more than quoted hth, cheers....Nige

The car originally came with a vinyl roof, but once it was removed you could see very large rust spots, which once de-rusted turned to holes. I decided to lead load them as the most effective form of repair. Cheers....Nige

The body lead was then soldered onto the body to repair the holes. In one of the pics you can see the lead repair being carried out to the rear window frame.

The lead was then filed down to the right contours of the body. This process has been carried out on all of the body repairs to the car. it's a lot more work than just filling it, but it's a permanent repair that won't shrink or allow moisture ingress from behind to cause any future problems. Do it & forget it .
