Hey Maudy,

I ended up sending it back as would cause too many problems trying to get it to fit apparently!
So I'm out on the two lots of postage, that sucks!
However, I've spotted a 2002 V6 Firebird auto tranny and I want to make sure it would fit straight in without any mods.

I can't risk any mistakes this time (like with the 97 tranny not fitting), as I won't be able to send this one back and £500 is a lot of money to waste!! So if anyone knows for 100% sure it would be a straight swap (same belhousing, tails etc), I would appreciate if anyone could confirm.

Regards

DS

everything should all be same on 98-2002 models.

Did you not want to bother with the one from the 98 camaro from that other company?

Just out of interest when did the 97 box arrive? Did it all look the same etc or was it physically different. Just wondering as like I said before I went to see the car and the box was still in!

Hey Maudy,

Both trannys are from the same company, ‘Cut Maple Salvage’, but the 98 Camaro one has about 66K miles on it and the 02 Firebird one has 28K miles on it. I know these things can crap out at 100K, so was a bit wary about the higher mileage one. Both are the same price, £500 delivered, but with no warranty or returns, so I'm a bit nervous to say the least!
Apparently they’ve had the 02 Firebird in from 2004, dunno why they’re only dismantling it now!
The 97 box arrived last week and looked the same, but the belhousing was the split type (mine is the one piece) and the tail was a different length, about an inch shorter I think, I haven’t seen it myself as it was delivered direct to the guy doing the work. He’s been in the American car biz for over 30 years so he does know his stuff, he’s a decent bloke.
Yup, was from the same car, I asked and they only had the one Camaro in.

Regards
DS

yeah, strange they had it in so long? oh well boxes should be ok long as there is oil in it, just check it comes out of park and rolls if they can.

I know what you mean about the 97 box, personally if the bell housing bolt patterns matched then i'd have fitted it up their and changed the tail shafts after it was on, if they were the same. I cant say without having the box to look at. Saying that I had loads of trouble just trying to find the correct tail shaft for my Z28, as they swapped from 4 to 6 bolt and it had to have torque arm mounts !!

Well hope you get it all sorted anyway dude. :D

if the box is in the car can they put it into neutral to check it rolls, i'm sure I've heard in a few very rare cases that the Park pin can get stuck so it wont come out of park.

Cheers for that maudy :)
This whole thing is just turning into a nightmare, I've been posting all over the place and despite a few saying the 02 Firebird V6 tranny isn't compatible with my 98 V6 Camaro, the majority seem to think it will be. The main question appears to be if any of the electrical connections are different. I've even offered to pay for the info if any of the local US boys can check with their local scrappie, as they seem to be the experts on this!
All because Cut Maple don't do exchanges or refunds or any kind of warranty!!
So, the saga continues.

as far as i was aware all the 3800 series II V6 should have same stuff. Maybe just se if there is a casting or part number on the main box and check tail shaft no is same part number too. Its a shame i'm so far away i would have taken a look for you if I could have.

Really hope you get it all sortd dude

I saw this on the US ebay site if you are really desperate. They also indicate that a 3.4 is the same as a 3.8 so that may be another lead.

Also this one a complete 3.4

Good Luck
