Hey Luke,
I’ve been moving house so things have been a bit chaotic to say the least!!

I did get in touch with the guys about the gearbox you told me about, £500 delivered, box had done about 67,000 miles, but no warranty!
However, purely by chance I came across one of these sites where you can advertise for a part and they zip this info out to all the UK dismantlers. One did come back to me the same day, A1 Auto Dismantlers, they had a box from a 98 V6 Camaro which had been rear ended (same as the other one), £325 delivered, 66,000 km’s and they offer a guarantee.
So now waiting on delivery which should be this week, so once it arrives and I get it fitted I’ll report back.

Thanks again for your help and also thanks to March Hare for the other link.

In case anyone is interested, it was going to cost £1650.00 plus vat to have my existing box rebuilt, although uprated etc.

Cheers
DS

Good price indeed, maybe my lucks changing for the better. :D
Yup, that's the place, small world or what!!
I'm having it shipped direct to Glasgow, where my car is at the moment, the guy has quoted about £300 to fit, incl the 12 odd litres of fluid.

As luck would have it, the website has asked for feedback about the transaction today, this is it,
http://www.breakeryard.com/
It involves a £1.50 text to register your mobile number for calls, sounds a bit iffy, but hey, worked for me.
There was another similar site as well, but I can't remember what it was, my home PC is still packed away in boxes somewhere!!

Kind Regards
DS

Hi Guys,

Plesed to hear that you have sorted your gearbox, sounds like a real good price and not bad for the fitting either. Bet you will be pleased when its all done.

I have used www.breakerlink.com in the past for looking for spares. It seems to work OK and you do not have to register a mobil number if you don´t want to. They just send replies to your email.

Good luck with it all.

Cheers Gerry

Any update on the gear box?? have they shiped it yet

Not the 'throw a spanner' in the works, but I went down yesterday cause i rang to ask if it had a body kit. He said yeah- so.... i get there and its a pre facelift 97 model NOT the 98 model, plus the body kit that I wanted to look at was smashed to pieces. Hoped it was an RS, but it was some japanese crap kit anyway.

I don't know if they sorted you out with the gear box yet, but this one still had its box in, and was sat on the roof of another car.

Just thought i'd let you know. The gearboxes may still be same on v6 3.8 models , i just know there was a difference in the v8, obviously due to the engine change.

I called last Wednesday and was told it would be shipped that day!!
Things have still been hectic with the house move, but I'll call tomorrow and double check.
I'm kinda worried now, hope they know what they were speaking about!!

Kind Regards

Guys,

I've got a major disaster, the 'slushbox' has arrived, but the guy who is doing the work tells me it is a different box, the replacement has a split belhousing, mine doesn't and it is also about 1 inch shorter somehow!
My box number is 2406970/2 and a 46 stamped on it.
The replacement box number is 24202527/2 and an 18 stamped on it.
Anyone know what these numbers mean?
I would really appreciate any feedback/advice on this ASAP as the guy is waiting for my response and I'm clueless!!

Regards
DS

sorry for late reply dude, im away with uni so had no net.

if the bell housing pattern is the same then it should bolt straight up, is the torque convertor still attached, it should be?

The tail housings may be different lengths so you can transfere the one from yours to the new box. They should physically look the same and I'd hope that it says 4L60E somewhere on the casing? Your should, I know my V8 box does.

No idea about the part numbers though, sorry

Let me know what happens/happened
