Thanks Nige,

That helps make some sense of it. So going on that, as the white stripe is painted down the middle with the current paint job, it would make sense to lay a layer of primer over the car otherwise the red would be lighter in the areas where the red is going to be painted over the white stripe. How would you know if you break through the paint? i think i there is a good chance i may be at risk of doing this due to lack of skill  and there are a few repairs (around the rear windscreen) where the paint is back to bare metal. so looks like flatting back, sealing, primer then colour coat (2 pack paint) to make the paint job work?

Still working on the repairs, had a wire feed problem this afternoon, taken a few hours to pull out the caught wire, no idea why it got stuck, but the repairs are coming through at a good pace :)

Cheers!
Ray

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Hi Ray, don't fully understand, is the stripe going to be the same as the one that's on there now? If you're painting over the white & are afraid that the white might show through, just "base" the white up with a couple of layers of red until it's fully covered & then continue to paint the rest of the car. This is something that's done when "spot" repairs are carried out. If a car doesn't warrant a full prime before painting, you obviously end up with primer patches like a dalmation. The way to ensure full even colour covgerage is to spray the top coat colour over the primer spots first to build the colour up to a point where it covers the primer & it's not visible. You then continue to spray the rest of the car until it obtains full colour coverage. Hth

any pics of progress so far?

cheers...Nige

Hi all,

I am alive!! The project has been slowed down to work commitments (staying away from home a LOT) and spending too much time on these forums instead of being out in the garage, so i withdrew myself form the forums, (sorry, don't mean to be rude!) and spent more time in the garage. There were lots of niggly things that kept coming up. for instance when i was wet n drying one of the doors (thinking i was in the paint prep stages) , i noticed a small bubble, so stripped it back, found massive holes and deep dent that had been fillered over and started rusting. so ended up having to cut, shape, weld, same thing on the other door too! So lots of things unexpected, but i've battled through and am in the paint stages whoo! Pics to come this weekend :)

Hope everyone is well!!

Need some advice here please... on the 1st and 2nd coat i tinted the primer 10%, then i started running low on primer so i tinted the final coat 15-20% so it came out a heavier shade of pink. As i flatted, i broke into the the 2nd / 1st coat so there are lighter areas of pink amongst the heavier. Is this going to be a problem when coating with red top coat? I did get a generous amount of paint mixed, so am looking at 4-5 coats, maybe at a push 6. Worried about it coming through as "rings"... or is that just the case it you hit different materials... e.g etch primer or filler.

Cheers :)

Ray

Wow !! that's looking the mutts mate, well done  . I haven't been too active on here lately as my 'puter has only been able to get 0.20mps since we moved, so trying to view pics etcwas a nightmare, just trying to catch up with stuff now it's sorted again. That car really is starting to take shape, what colour did you paint it?? Are you putting stripes back on it??

Keep the pics coming, cheers...Nige
