Hi Guys... hoping you can help me out here. I have a 69 convertible that I plan to paint hugger orange with black SS strips, however, orange is one of those colors that can look really great if you get it perfect or hideous if you don't!!! My question is, does anyone have the formula to mix this paint up to the correct spec. My car is in Paraguay, so you can't just walk into a shop and say I want Hugger Orange #72... but you can mix things up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Richard

Hi Richard, if it's a full on respray & if it doesn't have to be exactly right, then you'll find that British Leyland "Vermillion" orange is pretty close to Hugger orange. I've used it in the past & people haven't been able to tell the difference. It should be readily available off the shelf, easy to match in the future & formulations are abvailable to mix it, just a thought

cheers....Nige

Hi Nige... thanks for the tip... yes, it's gonna be a full respray so it might just work out!! Do you have any photos of the cars you've painted with this color... I'd be interested to see them too. As I mentioned before, my car is in Paraguay, so I might not be able to lug gallons of paint back with me, so I was wondering if there was a formula I can give the guys at the paint shop in country and they can mix it on the spot, or is it not as simple as this to do?

Cheers, Richard

Hi Richard, sorry but I don't have any pics of cars I painted in that colour to hand, but it's the colour that Leyland used to paint minis, MG's, Triumphs, Allegros, Marinas etc back in the '70's & '80's & as I said it's very close to Chevy "hugger orange". Here's a pic of my "hugger orange" engine which is actually Leyland "vermilion orange"

The fact that vermilion is a mainstream colour, as opposed to something unusual like GM Hugger orange, would mean that any paint factors should be able to match it up. The manufacturers code was Leyland CME/CML

here's some pics of vermilion cars:-

And a Hugger Camaro.

obviously, pictures aren't an exact replica of the colour, but it gives you an idea, hope that helps.

cheers....nige
