Hi can any one help me with a seat belt query in my 1986 z28 the seat belts dont lock when you pull hard or brake sharp,it doesnt bother me but wife not happy about this even though i told her the screens a expensive so i wont let her go through it :twisted:so if any one can help it would be appreciated.

It's one of those American/European car quirks. The seatbelts in most American cars don't lock when you pull them hard, they work off the movement of the car. Rest assured, if you stop suddenly or worse crash, they will lock, just not when you try and simulate an accident by yanking them. This is sometimes useful information at MOT time also. Still, if you're having a hard time with a tester over that it's probably time to find a new garage anyway!

as west coast says it's a different method of locking IIRC it's to do with the momentum of the car (try screaming off the line and I think you'll find they lock then or, just to reassure the wife, an emergency stop should allays her fears)

thanks for your help; i can always rachet strap the wife to the seat if she,s not happy.
