very impressive
well beyond me!

Bob (who is currently under Butch) tells me that all this container travelling has left Butch needing some chassis derusting?

What would you recommned as chassis paint/anit rust?

Hi Tim For de rusting metal I always use either products from Biltmamber or Granville. The Bilthamber web site will show you a product called Deox gel. This is what I used on the whole of the surface of my Camaro. I bare metalled it first & then brushed the Deox gel over the top & then covered it with cling film to stop it evaporating. The next day I washed it off & the metal was absolutely rust free, it even got into the "pores"of the metal. Normal paint processes can then be followed.

For the underside of the car & the interior I used Granvilles rust remover SRC02. You brush this on & it neutralises the rust & leaves a black coating to the metal surface. I tried, but was unable to scratch this coating off it's that good. I then overcoated that with an etch primer & then black enamel & underseal where nescessary.

Hope these products are of use to you, as I said I've found them to do everything I wanted as regards removing/treating rust.

Cheers....Nige

The outer roof skin had rusted so badly that you could virtually pass your hand between the inner & outer skins. The rust was cut out totally, new metal formed & tacked into place. Once happy that it all fitted correctly, it was continuously seam welded & finally lead loaded where nescessary prior it it being primed..
Hi Nige,
Just working on the same part of my camaro at the moment, my question was regarding how you treated the metal sill that runs vertically. From your pics you had rust holes too, but i'd like to know if you cut out pretty much the whole part of the vertical running metal, then placed new sheet metal flush against it and butt welded that, or did you treat the rust, then place new metal over that?

Hope my description makes sense :)
Cheers!
Ray

Hi Ray, sorry but I'm not sure which part you're talking about, I don't understand "vertical metal sill"??. What part of the car are we looking at, any pics? If you like copy & paste my build pic that you're referring to.

cheers...Nige

Hi Nige,

Wasnt a very good description that i gave, apologies
have attached pic below, what i was referring to was the part on the left which is where the rear glass would be sitting on, where you've got the rust holes. i wasn't sure if you cut out a hole the same size as the new metal that would be going in to butt weld it, (same way you repaired the front fenders) or weather in such a case it's ok to kill the rust, then place new metal over the top.

Cheers! :)
