I've experienced these two. If it has discs on the back it may to be the auto adjusters, they were recalled on early models for the issue. I think 89 is after the recall date though? It can be a faff getting them to auto adjust. I found stomping on the brakes then pulling the hand brake up and down helped them adjust in.
Gave her a wash this evening - I have a feeling I'm going to go through a lot of Autoglym's Paint Renovator.
Anyway - with her in Park, and the handbrake on, she didn't move at all, so that's something. :)

The dash lights (on mine at least, may have been an option?) are dim-able by turning the headlight knob. The resistor in is dodgey on mine, they usually spring back to life if I twiddle it back and forth. The first time I found it I just had them dimmed all the way
Cheers for that, I have a feeling that's probably what was up with mine.
I've also discovered that I have cruise control.
Can I also ask where the hazard switch is?
The dealer didn't have any history or papers to hand (hopefully in the post soon) so I haven't got the owners manual...

Haynes manual has been ordered, however. :)

There's a little thing on the right hand side of the steering column. I think it pulls out. You can see I don't use them much!

The hazard switch is in the right hand side of the steering column, you push the middle in to set them going and pull the outer part outwards to turn them off.

Cheers guys!
Found the hazard switch. There was an instance on the motorway where it would have been useful - had that awful moment of not knowing where it was as I approached a bunch of very slow, stopping traffic near Birmingham.

Also, the instrument light was just turned down - I'd been fiddling with the switch in the day and hadn't realised what it did!

Onto other matters - I've noticed that in reverse, unless I'm giving her a lot of welly, she'll stall. I'm thinking this probably isn't normal.
Any ideas? Worth investigating the rear axle?

I'm hoping to get an order in with Hawks 3rd Gen for a stainless t-top section and a complete set of weather stripping in the next couple of weeks, funds permitting, so I can get on with sorting the tin worm issues.

Also - pics (click to enlarge) :

Also, there's a section on the rear bumper that's been taped over. Am I right in thinking an 'RS' emblem should be in here?

Watch this space. :)

Nice pictures, she's looking sweet!

Stumbling in reverse won't be the rear axle. Having said that, not sure what it could be...?

Keep us updated!

I will do - although I'm going to get the various tatty bits repaired and more or less back to spec.
Reverse issues appear to have stopped - I guess more usage has loosened thing up.
She seems to be dropping a little bit of oil from the rear, I think it's off the diff case, so I guess a new gasket on the rear diff might be a good idea.
