Does anybody know what fluid to use for the power steering on a 91 3rd gen, I think it could be Dexron 2 auto trans fluid, but it doesnt say on the cap?? Cheers Jason.

some general ATF fluid that meets dextron II or above. Typically they are all dextron III now. Its about £6 a litre from any car shop, halfords or motorsave etc

Hi mate, thanks for that , I just wasn't sure as the haynes manual is useless and tells you nothing, I syringed a bit fom the resovoir last night and it was jet black in colour so it must be a few years old, I hope there is nothing starting to wear but I have never seen black fluid before.

black fluid???? mines nice and red/pink. It maybe just has a lot of sediment in it. It shouldn't have caused any problems and I presume the power steering still works? Just get it changed out when you can. Clean, new fluids are better

Thanks for the support on this its the last thing I need to do as I have done all the other fluids, plugs, leads etc, I hope you are right about the sediment as the steering works fine and no noises from the pump, its going to be nice on Sunday so I think a cruise with the misses into Derbyshire is on the cards. I'd only tell you to worry if it was your brake fluid that was black. My friend once had a nissan skyline that i changed all brakes on and they were still rubbish. I looked at his fluid and it was black

power steering not much of a worry, if the car turns its all good

No, brake fluid is ok checked it, its blue with silver stripes. Cheers Jason.
