Sorry Dave, they didn't. I was only ringing to see if my chain was being pulled by this dealer. I mentioned to him in an email that USAuto had a couple on the shelf, he flatly told me they didn't.

Still, what's two weeks waiting eh? I'm sure it'll be worth it! Won't it? :? ;)

Hey all

Spot of an update - just tidying out the Mazda, getting the paper work together, ringing the insurance companies - because tomorrow I'm off up north to (hopefully) collect her, then driving back on Wednesday. Springs should (finally) be going on this morning, so I'm waiting for a phone call to confirm the MOT's done etc.
I've already got a local garage lined up to check her over and then we'll probably get into rust proofing as much as we can. Living so close to the sea, I don't want her to dissolve! After that it'll be fettling anything that needs attention really. I'm already thinking along the lines of having the heads ported and flowed, some new headers and a Magnaflow exhaust kit. But we'll see what the brakes are up to first!

So, hopefully, this time on Thursday I'll have driven to work in my first Camaro...

well... the bad bits.
There's some nasty rust on the passenger side t top channel. Some surface rust above the windscreen that needs catching now. Seat belts aren't retracting. Hole in the headlining. Water in the boot space. Split rubbers on the door exterior. So new rubbers.
I think its the right side of being a dog, so i'm going to sleep on it and hopefully check your advice!

Hi mate,

Sounds borderline, like you say. Seat belts not retracting is pretty common, could be as the car is parked on an incline? Make sure she is solid underneath and also have you driven it yet?

After a sleepless night of 'What if it's a lemon, I'm stuck with a Mazda on it's way out... will it get me home?'...

It's mine.

I bought it.

After the comments about the rust in the T top channel, and the cost of sorting that, I cheekily asked for px on the Mazda, £1000, plus MOT & 6 months tax.
He said px on the Mazda, £1100 plus MOT & Tax.
I bit his arm off.
:D

Drove it back down from Shropshire this afternoon after sorting all the paper work and insurance, never missed a beat or gave me any cause for alarm.
Until it got dark, and I realised that the dash board illumination wasn't working, so I couldn't read my speed.

Any pointers on that? Bulb gone? Is there a fuse for that?
I think the various warning lights (hand brake etc.) are all working though...
Only other thing is that our drive way is very steep, and she wouldn't sit on the handbrake, so that meant leaving her at the bottom of the drive, legging it up to open it and bringing her in. Not a big deal really, but is that usual? I'd imagine they should sit on the handbrake ok?

So, anyway, I'm going to save her from turning to rot. I'm working over the next 4 days, but I'm going to stick the dehumidifier in it for a day, get to work on bringing back the lustre to the shabby paint work (she's been resprayed black straight over the red ) and then we'll get that rot in the t-top sorted.
Nearby classic car restorers are the current favourite, as I know they look after a '73 Camaro.

All in all.... I am in love with this car. She's tatty around the edges, but hopefully I'll get her back to being properly presentable.
Drawing up a shopping list now. :)

And that engine noise...

Great news! Am pleased you went for it, it would have been a depressing drive home in the Mazda with all the thoughts of what could have been!

Only girls worry about what speed they are doing ;) Probably just a bulb- did the gear selector or ashtray light work or was it pitch dark? If pitch dark then could be a fuse. Minor stuff mate.

As for the handbrake- It's auto isn't it? If it is then often these cars are just left in Park and nobody bothers with handbrakes. Shouldn't have passed an MOT without adjusting though... Simple enough job. Are they drums on the back?

So go on- show some pictures. It's been emmotional.

Congrats and welcome to the Big Boys Club

I've experienced these two. If it has discs on the back it may to be the auto adjusters, they were recalled on early models for the issue. I think 89 is after the recall date though? It can be a faff getting them to auto adjust. I found stomping on the brakes then pulling the hand brake up and down helped them adjust in.

The dash lights (on mine at least, may have been an option?) are dim-able by turning the headlight knob. The resistor in is dodgey on mine, they usually spring back to life if I twiddle it back and forth. The first time I found it I just had them dimmed all the way

edit:I should point out if the head light switch is the problem new ones are on $20 odd from rock auto, you have inspired me to replace mine.
