Thanks for the compliments. My kids have noooo interest in my cars or what I do in the slightest, so maybe I need to do a bit more image building too.

The strange thing is, that when I had my bodyshop, a few kids used to call by occasionally & ask questions. I always had some "high end" exotica, hot rod or yank in for work, so I'd take 'em around & show them the cars. Turns out that they were in the same class as my son. As soon as they spoke to my son in school about this "amazing place" with "fantastic cars" he became a little more interested in what I was doing as these kids were really excited about it & couldn't wait to see what else we had turned up. He'd pop down the garage on his way home from school as all of a sudden his old mans a school boys "celebrity figure". Unfortunately it didn't last long as his X Box took over his life & he found he didn't have time to come down to the garage with me...........Great shame.

I finally found some time to start the final cut back & polish. Been doing the drivers side over the last couple of days. Onto the other side on the weekend, followed by the roof & bonnet. Just gotta hand glaze it & wax it, detail it & it's done Woo Hoo!!

I bet it must be a great feeling that so many years on its now ready for the road!! Which is the first meetup thats gona be lucky enough to grace its presence?
May i ask what you use to cut back and polish? Theres a lot of products out there that dont do more than knacker your arms from polishing for hours, to find its actually not made an impact

To get a great shine it's down to a lot of hard work in flatting the paint surface prior to cutting back & polishing. First I use 1500 grit wet or dry paper on a block (never sand with your fingers) with plenty of soapy water. When flatting down I normally work one panel at a time. After flatting the panel down, dry it off & look for any defects or marks that are visible. If needs be re-flat the panel until you're 100 % happy with it. Once happy, I then repeat the procedure with 2000 grit wet or dry. Once dried off, the panel takes on a satin sheen look. I'll then move onto the next panel. Once the car's flatted down I then move onto the polishing process.

I use Farecla G3 cutting paste, worked in with an electric polisher fitted with a G mop head. It normally takes 3-4 applications to get the finish looking good. I then follow this with Farecla G10, which is a finer cutting paste. Once happy it's then out with the glaze, followed by a good wax.

Here's a couple of videos that might help. If you're doing a whole car I'd suggest buying a cheap polishing machine. Machine Mart do some at good prices. To cut back a whole car by hand will take forever. I used to have to do this when I was an apprentice & it'd take weeks to get the car finished.

Have you tried just useing g6 compound as it will polish up quicker i used to do the same as you but found that g6 then hand glaze works just as well and then sometimes i use 3m rose polish.
