After a sleepless night of 'What if it's a lemon, I'm stuck with a Mazda on it's way out... will it get me home?'...
It's mine.
I bought it.
After the comments about the rust in the T top channel, and the cost of sorting that, I cheekily asked for px on the Mazda, £1000, plus MOT & 6 months tax.
He said px on the Mazda, £1100 plus MOT & Tax.
I bit his arm off.
Drove it back down from Shropshire this afternoon after sorting all the paper work and insurance, never missed a beat or gave me any cause for alarm.
Until it got dark, and I realised that the dash board illumination wasn't working, so I couldn't read my speed.
Any pointers on that? Bulb gone? Is there a fuse for that?
I
think the various warning lights (hand brake etc.) are all working though...
Only other thing is that our drive way is very steep, and she wouldn't sit on the handbrake, so that meant leaving her at the bottom of the drive, legging it up to open it and bringing her in. Not a big deal really, but is that usual? I'd imagine they should sit on the handbrake ok?
So, anyway, I'm going to save her from turning to rot. I'm working over the next 4 days, but I'm going to stick the dehumidifier in it for a day, get to work on bringing back the lustre to the shabby paint work (she's been resprayed black straight over the red
) and then we'll get that rot in the t-top sorted.
Nearby classic car restorers are the current favourite, as I know they look after a '73 Camaro.
All in all.... I am in love with this car. She's tatty around the edges, but hopefully I'll get her back to being properly presentable.
Drawing up a shopping list now.
And that engine noise...
