Car Details:1977 Camaro, 406 Dart block. AFR 235 heads, Super Vic intake, Carb Shop Dual needle carb, AMS1000 boost control, AIS meth injection, Twin F1C Prochargers, Super Charger Store Geardrive, Baer Track 13" rotors, Global west lower arms, SPCC upper arms, Strange adjustable shocks, Hotchkis front and rear springs, swaybars. Max handels bars and sub frame connectors. Global West lowering solid bushes, Caltrac traction bars, M/T 315 rears on a 12 bolt Posi. Not enough room to list all my mods!

Great video, thanks for posting that. Bad Pennys a really nice car, but boy does it look like it's gonna roll onto it's door handles when cornering through the slalom at the beginning. At those sort of speeds mine stays perfectly flat. Didn't that black Procharged car catch fire & get destroyed or was it a similar one?

Bad Penny is an awesome car, it may be at the time of the video that there was still no rear anti-roll bar, as it seems to be the backend rolling a lot, and causing the front to look untidy. If that's not the case, then the yanks still want there wallowing comfort :lol:

Hi Mark, long time no see, how ya doing & how's the car? Any more pics?

The strange thing about Bad Penny is that the car has had the best of everything chucked at it, like an aftermarket subframe, tubular A arms, Baer brakes, coilovers, huge tyres etc etc & yet Mary Pozzis, stock subframe, stock A armed, leaf springed, narrow tyred 2nd gen can beat it on an autocross course. Just goes to show that it's in the set up & not nescessarily in the biggest amount of money you can throw at a car, that makes it handle. (tongue frimly in cheek :lol: )

Hi did you notice how the oil pressure dropped on the steep right hander at the end (in the red car)?
Usual problem with wet sumped race cars

Took us a while to get this sorted in Butch!

Hi Tim,

If you had offered me that seat a year or so ago, then I would have snapped it up, but I need the "split" rear seats from a 3rd or 4th gen car - as the normal 1st gen rear seat will no longer fit.

Mmm, yeah I know, it's a bit worrying isn't it? I've been following the build thread on this car & i'm not convinced that all of this aftermarket suspension stuff is any better than a well set up re worked stock system. The likes of Tims "Butch" is testamount to that.

Bad Penny has so many aftermarket bits fitted to it, it's not to say that they're going to work well in conjunction with each other. The car's had a number of different shocks & spring rates fitted to it, along with different wheel sizes & tyres, anti roll bars etc etc, all of which have been recommended by so called experts & suppliers.

It's always being changed, so maybe it's a case of incompatibity that Pozzis chasing after. Marys car, to the best of my knowledge is a pretty basic set up like those that the historic racers use. Set up properly they can be made to handle very well, I just see all of this aftermarket stuff like 3 link rear ends, aftermarket subframes & A arms as "this months must have bling" items.

You don't need all of the go faster suspension & engine stuff that the PT guys seem to be fitting, just to drive between cones, in a car park, in an autocross & you certainly don't need all of the alleged horsepower they seem to crave. ;) As Rogue said, a good driver in a Miata ( Mazda MX5) will outrun most PT cars on track.

with some good points raised by "Rogue", "NOT A TA" & a few of the others, but the thread got locked, maybe it was hitting too close to home :lol:

this quote from Rogue sums it up for me:-

The jury is out on whether or not aftermarket subframes, LSX engines, 3 links, and all the latest goodies make a fast car or not. The only way of testing it would be to use 1 driver, 1 track, multiple cars and tracking data. In my own heavily biased and sometimes obnoxious opinion most of the aftermarket parts we are so blessed to have are shiny bling, nothing more.

Good ole leaf springs, a modified stock subframe, a decent amount of power, and a decent driver will go a LOT farther than a guy whos never spent any seat time at a track with a 150k pro-touring car...."

Hi Nigel. Well said. I have also been following the continuous updates and feel that the whole "Protouring" movement has a momentum maintained from these cars being sponsored by the manufacturers. The kit works but you only need so much....after that does become all about the "bling". Bad Penny is undergoing another rebuild as we speak and so is Mary's Camaro.....

I must admit I do like the "too much power" syndrome as I find it highly amusing on the UK streets......I'm still working on tuning the twin Procharged SBC and haven't yet been able to get it into boost or over 2500rpm yet.......To tell you the truth I'm scared. But as soon as I get used to it I'll start to creep up on the boost till I get to that "too much horsepower" level.

As for leaf springs check this out. Al Jiminez has just done a 200mph 1/4 mile with a 2nd Gen Camaro, leaf springs, MT 275/60/15 radials and a Procharger F3!!!!

Talk about keeping it cheap and simple. Think about how many people have chopped up their rear ends and installed slicks to achieve times no where near Al's record....
