Hi guys,

Finally got my OBD II cable and works fine :-)
Only code found was P0117, which apparently is 'Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Low Input'!!
Any idea what the hell this means?? Appreciate any help.
And to top it all the car won't start now, just clicking, battery is probably dead with the cold!!!

@benez28 No reduced engine power light is on.

Regards

DS

i think its time for a new coolant temp sensor, but see what benez28 says too cause he's got the code but so there might be other solutions.

Ahhh, one more question.

I think I'll replace the battery, what is the best spec to get powerwise.
Unsure if the existing one is the correct power size for this engine size?

well i got a red optima, its got over 800 cranking amps, and the v8 needs about 450-500 :)
its a 50Ah too and is fine onmy car, its ok after a week but my dad says it flat now cause im in Spain
and my car it at my parents

They are good batteries but it was 130 quid so it depends if you want to spend that much. Im sure something similar or a little lower spec
will be fine! they do a 44Ah red top too

Hells bells guys, I feel like a right idiot!!
I just checked the water/coolant level and there is almost none in the car!!
I don't understand it, it has never lost any water in over a year and now its empty.
I need to get some anti freeze and refill it and see if that clears the fault code!
I'll let you all know how I get on.

Regards

DS

Back to the battery!
A friend of mine has a battery he can give me, its a GM72-H3, 12V, 72AH, 380CCA, 130MINRC.
My existing dead battery is a Varta, 12V, 60AH, 640A.
As I don't understand anything about batteries, I thought I would run it past you guys to see if this would do OK?
It's the V6 3.8L engine I have.

Regards

DS

ok, so with regards to the battery, that should be ok , i think 380 cca will turn the v6 so shouldnt be a problem. The AH is a little more than you would need , think you can get away with 44AH for the 3.4L. But it should be fine.

With regards to the water loss AND the fact you were talking about the rough running then the intake manifold gaskets could be gone, apparently on the v6 they connect to the cooling system so how and if they are bad they leak water. But fill it back up first and see how it runs, if its better and not using water then :D

Hi all,

This problem is bizarre, and all the soddin snow hasn't helped either!!
Ended up only having to put in about 4 litres of coolant, so I guess still about 8 litres still in there, so at least its not losing it all :) and I haven't been running it empty!
Anyway, topped it up and took it for a test drive in the snow last night (great fun!!) as the outside temp was actually above zero!
All went fine until this morning, as soon as I started up the MIL came on, checked the coolant level, fine, ran a diagnostic and same code as before, altho its not going into limp home mode this time!!
Do you guys think it could still be the coolant temp sensor?
And if so, where do you guys normally get specialised stuff like this from?

Anyway, a very Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you all and especially to maudyz28 and benez28 for all their help.

merry christmas and happy new year to you too :)

I have got a few parts from US automotive before, but i live near an american parts specialist called Rodley Motors, in Bradford:

http://www.rodleymotors.co.uk/

they usually are able to hget standard parts I need, filters, oil, plugs etc. so should have a sensor or be able to get one for you.

However I usually ship losts from the US, have shipped £1000's of suspension parts and all have been fine. Have a look on ebay first for a cheap sensor, or hawks 3rd gens or something.

Hey guys,

Still waiting on my sensor, no thanks to the snow
Took the car out for a warm up and noticed P0118 code also showed up and engine temp gauge hit the red???
I assume this is all related to the malfunctioning coolant sensor?
Just thinking when I get this part, is it easy enough to do, me being mechanically challenged?
Will I need any special tools and does anyone have a diagram of where it is exactly in the engine?
Or would I be better taking it to a garage to install?
Sorry for all the dumb questions

Regards

DS
