How much brake fluid will I need to buy, to fill a complete new system ?. I was thinking that one litre would be more than enough.

Thanks from Luke

I suspect it will need more than that, as you will loose a fair amount when bleeding it.

I'm interested to hear what other opinions are, as I'll be doing this myself one day.

The master cylinder wouldn't hold much and the lines wouldn't be much more. If it's over a litre it wouldn't be much more. Please let me know if anyone knows the correct amount, so I can order in the right amount.

Thanks from Luke

Pretty sure it's less than a litre. I'm remembering replacing/flushing the entire fluid on mine with 2 x 500 ml bottles and had some left...

I've been told that on a completely new system, you end up losing quite a lot as it will take more purging to remove all the air. So I think I will get another bottle to make sure that I've got enough.

I just looked through my two 3rd gen manuals and nowhere does it say what amount of brake fluid is needed.
Engine oil, trans auto and manual, cooling but not brakes.
