Okay I give up. I've found the spare wheel but where the hell is the jack stand hidden?

The jack should be in the rear right side with the skinney
spare.
You can't miss it they are big and clumsy.

Got a flat.....call a mate ?

+1 on what Malc said - it's in the same location as the spare. Likely that's it been used and not put back before?

No not got a flat, I want to check the brake pads

Okay, got a hydraulic jack, looked underneath and the jacking points at the front look like they have been crushed! Someone please tell me where to stick the jack now.....don't even think about saying it ;-)

I can't remember off of the top of my head, but if I saw a pic I could remember it, it's usually the pinch weld. Should be able to locate the frame rail though and use that (much tougher bit of metal). I normally jack the lower control arm, never feel comfortable jacking a pinch weld which is what's normally recommended. A-arm is designed to easily take the whole weight of the car and it means you have to jack the car up less high as it will raise the wheel almost straight away to take it off. I then place a solid axle stand under the frame rail, lower (take off wheel first) the control arm and the car basically rests flat.

Thanks for the advice, got a diagram by any chance? I want to do the discs and pads myself rather than take it to a garage, I know I know, 'don't use just a jack'.

I don't unfortunately, I'll try and find a pic online - sold the repair manual along with the car. The discs and pads are like any other car so pretty straightforward. Based on what you're doing, jacking up the lower control arm with the hydraulic jack will work, and using an axle stand on the chasis rail (just under the door hinge area) will work. That way you don't have to jack the car up much as the suspension will already be compressed.

Here you go - the blue arrows show the lower control arms, so just place the hydraulic jack under there (under where the spring is).

The red arrows show the chasis rail - they are quite tucked in compared to what you would expect.

Great stuff! Just what I was looking for. Now all I need to do is go on a diet so I can get my fat backside under the car

I've replaced the front discs on an old Rover 800 many years ago, what were they doing allowing an 18 month old baby to change the discs on a car I hear you say - cough - so I've an idea how to do it so it shouldn't pose many problems.

Question, where's all the dirt and crap on the underside of the car in the picture? ;-)
