Hello,

I posted on here last year when looking at a 1971 camaro for a bit of advice but in the end didnt go ahead with it.
I am now considering going to look at this car...

It's for sale at a very good price !, looks quite good on the outside but the interior needs a bit of work

Car Details:79' camaro road & track day toy. 383 stroker, 5 speed TKO trans, lots of suspension stuff, 13" Vette brakes, 18" wheels.
Location:Luton
Looks a good start, but needs good tidy.... I used to run similar 4x4 tyres on my old 15" rims many years ago.. dead cheap, and work well..

Thanks for the feedback.
Hopefully going to view the car tomorrow.

According to the VIN its a 1971 l6 and not a 70 as advertised. Somewhere along the way someone put in a 6.6L olds engine into the car.
Seems there is some bodywork required but not a huge amount. Interior definitely needs work.
Ive been over on nastyz28 and browsing through forums to get an idea of what to look for. Any useful hints or tips?

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
I'd check out the price of Olds engine parts first, I hear they're not cheap.

UK engine / suspension and other bits would come from places like Real Steel (Middlesex), US Automotive, John Woolfe Racing. TopSpeed and a couple of others i can't think of.


The rust spots from the outside are the rear window bottom (collects water easily).
Look at where the door handle is, then go all the way down to the bottom of the door - the panel on the left is the front part of the quarter panel. That is a very common rust spot. Check for any signed of non straight metal that would suggest previous work that could be rusting, or just general signs of rust / bubbling. The best way to check is by taking out the vent in the door jamb (1 bolt) and getting a torch in and seeing the visual state of it. Maybe even taking a phone pic with flash enabled will work. Now, run along the bottom of the door, so you're on the floor and looking up, as the door bottoms are a common rust spot. Move all the way to the front, just as you get to the front tyre you'll be under the rear part of the front fender. It tucks all the way under the body and that is another common rust spot, check around the bolts to see the state.
Then, get under the car to see the chasis legs. The front is usually ok and it's pretty heavy gauge steel. The rear chasis legs, especially around the top near the fuel tank where the suspension mounts to, can often corrode badly.
