I have never seen this link on the forum so I thought it may be of interest.

As this is from the people who actually make Camaro's I put more faith in the info than any aftermarket manual

Very useful site and asset! I did try and get info about my 79, but after searching for the info, they said that they couldn't find any info on it, but were able to give me the invoice number. Would love to be able to connect the invoice number somehow, if there were a database available to do so. I've seen other people who have had luck in getting all the details, so a very good service if you are interested in the heritage of your vehicle.

In fact, i'll submit a request for the Trans Am as it's '87, so maybe a higher chance of the records being kept.

Has anyone else tried this? I have my VIN number but no trim tag, any idea if they can still help with just the VIN?

I did it about a month ago. Got a full copy of my original invoice!

Pretty sure they can do it from VIN only, they do ask for the tag details as well but I don't think it made much difference to my order as all their emails kept referring to the VIN number. They only charge you if they find the invoice I think, no charge if no discovery (double check that, but I'm sure that's what I read) so no harm in trying.

In all honesty though, you can probably work out most of the tag details. The VIN will tell you which plant, then you can work out which cowl tag type. Hopefully you know what color it was originally? Lots of info on mine were on other labels as well (like manufactured date on a sticker on the drivers door etc.)

Only thing I can't find, is any way to get a copy of your build sheet. I found fragments of mine under the drivers seat, but only managed to piece together about 30% of it.......

The cowl tags pretty much only spec the following
Every time: GM, Camaro, Hardtop, Bucket Seats
Then either Sport Coupe / RS / Z28 are all the same with Berlinetta different
Manufacture plant (get from the VIN as well) either Norwood or Van Nuys
Interior Trim Code (looks like yours was Tan Vinyl Standard, 62R, originally)
Body Colour - Do you know if yours was originally Black?
Paint Type (nearly always W for Water)
Dash Panel colour (looks like yours was Tan, T, orginaly)
T-Top or not (looks like yours wasn't so ---)
Power Brakes (should be obvious, vac hose going to booster or not?)
Accessory Code (only way to tell if 'genuine' Z28, option 8 from Van Nuys / LA, other than looking at car specs)
Power Windows (should be obvious!)
Plant Batch Code (where it went down the track, not linked to VIN so hard to work out but also fairly meaningless)

The only other important bit is build date, which you may be able to find on the door sticker as well. Or the build sheet if you can find it under the seat / on the tank......

When i did mine it was just the VIN they needed. Unfortunately mine couldn't be found, likely as it has the extra Antwerp cowel tag which means it would have been an export model (to my best guess) (still made in Norwood but not delivered to a dealership / customer in the U.S). They didn't charge me due to no result and i believe that's still the case.

A good way to figure out factory colour is the cowel drop off, which is only visible with the fender off (or using small inspection mirror). Because of it's hard to reach location it's usually not painted in a respray (unless it's a full all panels off respray).

I have all the build sheets for mine, what I would like to know is how many of the slp coupes were fully optioned which nobody seems to have the answer to, I know there were around 80 ish white 30th anniversary Ss coupes made and half of them were 6 speed manual but as slp were brought out a few years back that's as much as I can find

Nice find, given me me something to help confirm the specs on my '99

No idea what colour it was originally, I think it might have been blue as there is blue underneath the black - unless it has been re-sprayed more than once! Also the tan interior would seem a good match for blue

I will have to see if i can find any other labels, I don't recall seeing any, but then the interior has completely been re-trimmed. I don't even know who cur the bloody big hole in the roof!

Tried the GMG archive but no luck, they couldn't find anything:(
