I.know there is a small resistor in the key for the security system which has to match with the steering column.and ecu, I have a 97 and didn't know there was a security light on the dash. There are a few American forums where they know absolutely everything there is to know about Camaro 's if nobody on here can help

I don't have an answer to hand but I agree that there is a security light on the dash that comes on if you don't press the top right button on the key, it will come back on in about 20 seconds if you don't start the car. If it still doesn't start then there may be a fault in the VATS system (I think thats what it's called). I had mine go wrong and the service involved changing the keys and lock barrel.

Button on the key? I have a key fob for the alarm and a separate key

Sorry meant to say on the fob, mine's been asleep all winter and brain fade has set in.

Hope this solves your problem!

Ah, in that case if it has a fob check the battery in in then have a scout about on the net and there is a way of programming or reprogramming the fob (used for when you buy a new one)

How have you got on with starting the car? Is it as simple as I hoped it was or is the car still silent on you. Of course if you have to disable the the security system then think what you have advise the insurer. They are usually looking for a Thatcham 1 standard to get reasonable insurance.

Be good to hear that the problem has been solved. The Camaro is a fantastic car and my Zee has been to the South Coast of France and twice to the west Coast of France and always with consummate ease.
