Hi All

I'm having a bit of a dilemna. My 68 has lapbelts of the OEM type which are pretty new. Now I do (sometimes) worry about the low level of safety equipment in the car and this is one area of concern.

My Morgan has a roll hoop and four point harnesses. I actually really enjoy the 'strapped in' feeling you get when driving with the harness in place. Getting strapped in is a different matter though!

Of course to fit harnesses to a 68 would require extensive modifications such as something to attach them to and most likely a cage of some sort. This feels like a step to far as the car looks pretty stock as is (other than the wheels and the 2" of lowering) and I dont know if I want to go as far as all this.

Just wondering what others had done who might be in a similar situation?

I'm not as familiar with the 1st gen body shell a the 2nd, but I'm sure there's a way to retrofit later 3 point seat belts in, depending on a suitable point to mount in roof.
Failing that, harnesses mount to existing seat belt points each side of the seat and you could get a bar fitted between the rear wheel wells to attach upper mounts, which would limit use of the rear seat though.

I think Stu has a good idea to look at the roof area to see what options are available there. There should be a factory mount already in place that is hidden by the headliner. Take a look at this link (have to scroll almost to the bottom of the page to see). Quite a few 1st gens have this setup.

Ye, no lol. I would go for a set of belts from a 4th gen that's being broken. Still GM and maybe possible to fit in some way with modification.

Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle,disc front drum rear.
68 firebird convertible ( long term project) Stock resto/mod style ,400 pontiac th350
The fixing points for shoulder belts should be located on your car but you will have to cut your headliner to find/use them .
Ecklers list a kit but not cheap 2 types $250 and $350 ( for both front seats )
I considered it but opted to stick with lap belts .

I would recommend these guys, very good to deal with, I've got a pair of their mirrors on the way for my 68. I will consider the seatbelts at some point, although mine are already the 3-point type, and not lap belts.

I have purchased these for my Camaro build, although they are pricey they are FMVSS approved unlike some of the other alternative options on the market which is why they demand the high price. I ordered mine with the GM Buckle, think it was only an extra $15, I've not looked at them but if want pics I can find them for you.
I paid $676 for the front, rear and middle lap belt with GM logo.

I agree with the other alternatives above though, you could possibly look at using other Generation Camaro seat belts which may retrofit at a lower cost.

There are factory install locations in the roof of the Camaro behind the headlining.
