Well I had put my camaro up for sale on Car and Classic, not really to bothered about selling it but everything has a price and I am always looking for the next project, anyways car had only been up for sale for a few days and I get a phone call from a chap tells me a bit of a story about what he wants the car for, I didnt believe him at first, made a few phone calls to confirm and it all checks out.
It was the assistant producer for TopGear

Basically what is happening is I have the mechanic from BBC's TopGear coming check the car over (make sure it is what I discribed) and if it all pans out the car will be on TopGear.

That is some great notoriety for sure! I can't help but be a bit dubious as Top Gear have never had a good reputation for doing something with a car that isn't brand new (they even fabricated the Tesla review to make it look bad). I think back to the episode they did in America where they got used cars for $1,000 and trashed them along the way. Anything they tend to do with used cars involves cutting and turning them into odd useless vehicles that get trashed, one of the reasons i gave up on the last couple of seasons was getting tired of a car enthusiast program doing the opposite of what car enthusiasm is about - destroying them. I have my fingers crossed though that this new Top Gear will be nicer to cars, especially the Camaro!

There was a guy on Pistonheads, who told the tale of when he lent his quite nice Lancia Stratos kit car copy to Top Gear for heir feature on the Stratos, unbeknown to him they then used it as an example of how rubbish non genuine ones are, when his car was actually quite tidy and well built. he said they thrashed it causing some damage and purposely loosened bolts to make things fall off.

Hmmm...

That's a good car - and totally solid and rust free. I know Camaros aren't exactly rare, but ones in that good a condition are.

Certainly the old Top Gear crew weren't nice to American cars, or even used ones. But with Matt LeBlanc, perhaps they'll be a little more sympathetic - hell perhaps Matt had one when he was in high school! (just checked, he's a bit too old...!)

However, I do remember that poor Mustang that got butchered with an external cage...

Perhaps you should ask him what they intend to do with it? (like they'd give an honest answer...)

By the sound of it, did they end up buying it in the end?
