Fingers crossed this will sort it, a partial re-spray sounds expensive....

I got to my first Ace Cafe meet this year (I arrived once they had all gone in Jan). Some nice cars there, but I think the best show so far for cool cars and indeed Camaro's was the Damn Yankees Summer Slam :)

What paint is it? I'm a way off painting yet, but it sounds like I need to steer clear of it.

Ye the Ace Cafe is usually quiet until about Spring, have you been to any other dates there? It's one of the nearest meet places to me so hope to start meeting people from here over there.

The paint is Nexa Autocolour, now owned (for about 7 years or so) by PPG. It's a mid range product and provides warranty so it's not bad per se, it lays down well and gives a nice factory style finish. It seems it's not meant for custom work. It's designed for body shops and pushes for fast output performance i.e. fast dry and handling times, can be oven baked or air dried. So probably when used with 2 light coats it would be ok. I don't thing it's designed for things like full cut and buffing and extra layers. The tech sheet said 2 layers of clear but knowing i would be cutting, laid an extra 2 coats as i knew 1 layer would get sanded off and wanted to ensure there would still be 2 layers on there. I'm still a bit dubious though, as it's not like i laid down 6-8 coats, which i could understand as that would take a long time for the paint to harden. It was painted last summer in temps of about 25c and has had pretty much a full year to cure. The garage gets up to 35c sometimes on a hot sunny day, so it should have had plenty of time to cure.

I wouldn't use it again. I may try something like lechler in future as that has a good reputation in the mid range. Going over to something premium like PPG or Debeer etc. would be way more expensive.

It's a real shame as it looks like glass from about 5 feet but then up close it looks like it's had a rough life which is quite annoying seeing as it's just been freshly painted. Buffing is a pain too - to get rid of the majority of the scratch marks it has to be on a higher speed, but that also produces a lot of heat and starts to undo the flatness brought on by the cutting stages so the paint doesn't look sharp and flat. So you either get rid of the scratches and have a less glass like finish, or keep the glass like finish but have loads of scratches. Even 2 coats of wax didn't do much to help fill in the scratches

I'm only 20 minutes down the road from the Ace so should be there quite often, Assuming I am not busy somewhere else which seems to have been the case for the rest of the year so far!

That's not far at all, you're probably near Stu in that case. Finding the free time is always the hard part, hopefully will be able to meet you there in the next couple of months :)

Didn't realise you had moved already! Northwood is a nice area, you're only 15 minutes away from my work :) Have you still got the small beastie?

Progress is going slow but steady - finished wet sanding the front bumper yesterday, which is the last piece of cut and buffing i will do for now. Tonight i will machine compound and buff it. Then later in the week i need to try and figure out a way to get to the upper control arm nut to torque it (the one under the brake servo). Then check the rear suspension bolts for torque - pretty sure i torqued to spec on installation but just want to be sure. I put the steering wheel on when i thought the wheels were straight but it's a few splines out, so need to pull the steering wheel and re-align. Then a once over and then MOT. I would like do a bit each night so that by the end of the weekend, it's all ticked off the list.

I am really scared to drive it  Not in the sense of scratching it etc. but in terms of things falling off or not working half way down the road  Sounds silly but genuinely worried.

Would be great to meet at Ace Cafe on the last Saturday of this month or Hot Rod night in the beginning of September.

Bit of progress in the bigger picture - transferred the insurance from the Trans Am to the Camaro yesterday. £30 more expensive to insure it. Have to do a mileage agreement which will be fun as it will say 0

Now if i can just get the car MOT'd...
