Car Details:1967 Chevrolet Camaro 355
Hi all, just a quick note to introduce myself, ive been collecting classic cars for a number of years usually mgs, triumph and the suchlike but never got into the american market until recently, when my sister bought a 1970 Mach1 Mustang and I fell in love with it, I then started taking a bit more notice at some of the american cars at the shows and the love affair ended with the mach1 when I seen my first SS Camaro in the flesh, wow! So im planning on bringing one from the US, ive got my eyes on one just not sure if the car im looking at ticks the boxes it should I think its a 1967 clone ss with a rebored 355 engine, everything else looks great but im not sure what a lookalike should demand pricewise or if I should stay clear and stick to an original? looking forward to my first US purchase and having a bit of banter!
Heres a bit of the description if anyone fancies helping me out a little

1967 Chevrolet Camaro 355 V8 with 3-speed automatic transmission with Hurst ratchet shift. Silver with green Rally Stripes and black bucket seats and interior.Power Steering and 4-wheel power disc brakes fitted with 18 inch rear and 17 inch front chrome wheels with new radial tyres.

Just completed light restoration including new paintwork,new interior,350 engine rebuild +30 over,4-wheel disc conversion and new wheels and tyres.

Congrats on your new found love of the Camaro, and good luck with the search for the right one for you. I'm sure you know from previous car adventures buying unseen is a risky business, and you never know what you've really got until it's in front of you. Rust and rot is the big issue to avoid, mechanical parts are relatively cheap.
The silver car in the pics looks great, nice slightly modded spec, but mostly original. I'm not crazy about the colour coded wheel rims personally, but that's not big deal.
Like all older cars it depends on what your intended use of the car is gonna be as to how original you want it (guessing this applied to the other previous classics you had). A few subtle mods make nicer drivers car.

It's a value/useability/cost exercise, but good luck with it !!!

It's worth paying a company who specialise in sourcing and importing yanks to check it out first, a friend brought a mini sprint from.cali unseen, looked mint in all.the photos (there were many) and he shelled out 14k for it, it had had plates welded on the plates that were welded to.the plates that were covering the rust in several places, pretty much a polished turd which turned into a basket case when all.the plates were removed, I think it cost him.nearly as much again to get it correct, rods and sods forum.have a few companies who specialise in sourcing, checking and Importing yanks, I would suggest contacting them if only for some.advice

I'd personally go check out some UK cars first, especially now the dollar is strong against the pound..

There's a lovely white 67' RS on ebay, 383 engine, manual 4 speed. Looks super clean

Thanks guys for the info, I think im probably better sticking to something a bit more original, like you say something I can check out myself first. think im gonna leave the silver clone and so the search continues!! anybody with a nice one for sale??

:thumbup: Good job; first gen Camaros are the nicest shape car ever built [admittedly I'm heavily biased]. I had been heavily considering importing over the past few years, and if its the route you go for I'd highly recommend getting a valuation done by someone who knows what they are looking at before doing so. When I was looking they charged a flat fee of around $200, but it gives peace of mind.

I kept chickening out when it came to the crunch of buying, [at least twice], due to partly the cost involved of importing, [exchange rates, duty/tax fees, insurance, shipping, transport to the docks from the cars location] and the car passing through a fair few amount of hands between the seller and you [so what you buy might not be what you get], on top of not knowing exactly what you would get until its pushed of the boat in whatever condition its made it in.

In the end I fell lucky before having the nuts to bite the bullet and import; and picked up a minter in the UK [I'm sure i could dig out a sketch done by my 15 year old self and it wouldn't be far off what I now have].

I wouldn't be put off by cars not being strictly original; they are 50 years old now, and the vast majority have been through some sort of restoration, model cloning, or modification. Modification, to an extent is very much a big part of muscle car ownership. So long as the body panels and floors are in good solid nick, your'e on to a winner!
