Hi All
Thought I'd join a forum! Always wanted a Camaro from about 10 years ago family .. stuff etc and in Feb budget and the right car coincided allowing me a 1997 Z28. Six months on, put her through the MOT, nothing worrying just handbrake efficiency! The only advisory, "exhaust a bit noisy", ticked that box :-) Side lights gave me the run around until I realized they were clear lens 2001 Astra repeaters! She's nice and I'm happy with her, shes become my daily summer car, big smiles on way to work. I also have a 96 Discovery (which I've now owned for 19 years) with about 200k (ie nothing) on her for the winter. Oh, and share the wife's new Astra but frankly, I use mine, I like old cars.
Joined the forum for odd tech help, swapping ideas, swapping spare part ideas and mods, the occasional meet and, to be friendly! One day I'll get a project 3rd or 2nd to play with as well. One day.
Oh, the car ... Currently showing 67k kilometers (42k miles). everything stock except no muffler and a single pipe. Think shes had a prang in the past. Some evidence of a little over spray and a receipt for a knuckle. VIN checks out, door codes checked out, was Canadian built for Japanese export and then came to UK, LHD. Wheels original and appropriately aged (19 years old). She has 30th ani seats which I believe were fitted to all 97's but doesn't have the build code for a 30th. Doesn't burn any oil, everything works. drives very nice. Quick, loud, very fast off the mark. Smart inside. Now I've got through the first MOT working down to do list, recharged AC and it's like a fridge now. Exhaust next (not broken, just want a little more sophisticated visually like SLP center dual tips).
When I bought it it came with the original GM back box and twins separate, removed.
I'm happy, yes, it's a late midlife crisis ... but I'm happy. Driving to the seaside sedately, pottering along. But she can get very angry on demand.
Pleased to meet you all, I'm based in Northamptonshire about 10 miles North of Santa Pod just South of the Raceway. My user name is black5f, it's a steam locomotive, that's my other vice.

Tom

Welcome to the forum and well done on passing the MOT!

No reason she shouldn't last you a long time if treated right! :)

Hi There.
I think this is going to be a long term relationship!

Edit: She's had a tranny bush which had a split, new stereo (it worked but only on proper CD's), AC and a fog light so far. Just about to have pads and a service inc lsd lube. I flushed the coolant but the heater is luke warm. Concerned that hoses will split when I take them off so looking for some rubber in case I have to remake the ali / rubber pipes / restriction in that event. Don't know if it's customary here to blur plates when posting pics, this was taken for flikr so I did?

T

I don't bother blurring my plate but personal preference I guess. Nice car. I used to go through tranny bushes when I had my '97. Must be a common problem.

She more or less mint for 19 years. Like it a lot. No scuffing on seats, even mats look un-worn. Paid a reasonable price and so far no surprises. Been good and reliable, eats tranny bushes for breakfast! Getting more comfortable working on her, I've just flushed out the heater after obtaining some nice hose picks, all went very well, now roasting hot. Which is good because on my way to get some antifreeze, my other baby, 21 year old disco, decided the water pump bearings were life expired. Well 200k and 21 years .. hay ho. Still got me home. So unfortunately, for the time being, the Z will have to be my daily runner .... oh dear eh :-))))

More pics.
