Are you on a flat or cambered road, a cambered road could cause the drifting ?

seems to drift regardless of the road type its very slight the weight of your hand on the steering wheel stops it. its more the excessive tyre scubbing on full right lock I am concerned about something isnt right looks and feels like the left wheel is gaining to much lock when on full right lock wheel is trying to tuck in and under but on full left lock its spot on

Fettled the bugger :D stripped the font end down this morn to check everything and compare measurements side to side and turns out the problem is what I thought initially. the toots where all over the place which in my past experiences has been down to bent steering arms and low and behold the left hand steering arm was 17mm bent inwards so this was throwing the toe out on turns all to hell I have ordered a new/second hand hub but as a little test I straighten the arm (number 20 jet in the oxy/acet and carefully bending) and it now is the same spec as the right and the car drives really good lock to lock feels the same now, so happy happy days

I know the car in the past has had a impact on the left corner as the wing and bumper are not orig.
The left wheel must have taken the full force of the shunt.
Is the left wheel true ?

You can see by the paint the repair was done a long time ago I would hazard a guess of more than 5 years ago. wheels are running true but they are not gm wheels so dont know when they where fitted. The lad i bought the car of had spent a fortune on springs shocks drag link. Steering box.track rods etc...so i suspect the car has had this issue for a long time and had parts thrown at it in hope of fixing it

Glad you managed to sort the steering issue. When I drove it back last year, the steering was the thing putting me off. It would randomly steer to the right in a straight line and, now you say it, I'm sure I felt something strange lapping a mini-roundabout.

Rocky put it down to a loose drag link, but I was still a bit too slow to buy it off him.

Seems its changed hands a couple of times since as people try to solve the problem. I'm glad its finally ended up with someone with the nous to actually recognise and fix the problem. I suspect ten minutes with an oxy-acetalyne torch probably added £2k to its value!

Good luck with it - it was a nice looking car, so hopefully it'll now drive as good as it looks!

Like you say it had a few steering issues and its had a ton of money spent on it to try and sort it, Its was just a case of go back to basics and use a bit of common sense. Bit scary to think over the years its probs had a 1k spent on parts on labour to sort the the problem and all it took was a tape measure and a big flame. Ive been pretty lucky and grew up in the garage one of my earliest memories is at 4yr old my dad sitting me in the engine bay of a mk4 cortina and me undoing the the head bolts with the air wrench,

The car still needs work but its a rolling project now the front end is 90% there Ive sorted the toots and set the tracking but I need to play with the camber and castor now the basics are correct, but as it is you jump in the car and wouldnt think there is anything wrong just a case of tweeking the last 10%

What an odd problem to appear, glad you managed to work out what is was! Wouldn't be something you would normally check for.

Seen it before on curbed and crashed cars. Just one of them thing you have to check the basics. Sounds like from ndndndnd this car has had this simple fault for alot of years and nobody has bothered to check end of the day if the left and right wheels are turning different amounts there are only a few things that can cause it
