Our own FlakMonkey has done a few auto boxes recently.

Or some other specialist places like Alders Automatics.
Depends where you are, how much etc..

I am based in shropshire near to Wolverhampton. I have heard mixed reviews about Penn Autos, and they quoted me £1700 + vat to refurbish the box which I thought was a joke!

That's a comedy 'we don't want to do the job' quote.

Mine´s at a transmission shop in Barcelona.
They´ve been there since 1952 and the owner sure knows transmissions....but he doesn´t understand the hot rodder attitude.

He´s charging me 800€uros but I supplied 800€uros worth of parts.

Do you have a website? I'm not very familiar with the options. I know they are usually rebuilt with shift kits anyway. I won't be really drag racing but aiming for 300bhp from the sbc in it and want something street able.

Basic 700r4 rebuild with the following parts. Suitable for up to 300hp in a street car.

High Energy Graphite (HEG) frictions, steels, bushings, seals, gaskets
Corvette servo upgrade - improves 2nd and 4th gear shifts
Transgo 2-3 shift kit - improves all shifts and also allows full manual control if you want it, full auto in D
0.5" boost valve (optional add £25) - increases line pressure but can make some shifts quite harsh.

£825

The other option I can offer is a more performance oriented build and suitable for up to around 500hp NA - this is the combo I had in my own car. Shifts are quite brutal at full throttle - still streetable but definately a performance option. I can only offer this combo on later style 700r4 transmissions (87-93).
Red Eagle frictions, alto power pack in 3-4 clutch
35% larger servo (bigger than the corvette one)
0.5" boost valve
Oversize low/reverse valve
Upgraded sun shell,
Upgraded sprag
Extra wide bushings for stator and sun shell
Transgo seperator plate
Upgraded accumulator springs
Corvetter governor - increases shift points
Upgraded pump rotor
And a load of other little tweaks

£1400

Both options include full clean and check of all hard parts - however if any damage is found then new hard parts will be extra. It's unlikely you will need any parts if your trans isn't making horrible noises.

Turn around time depends on parts deliveries from the USA as I don't tend to keep stuff in stock at this point - normally 2-3 weeks for part delivery and 1 week for the rebuild. However if the transmission is still useable and you wanted to do something then I take a deposit for the parts value (prices above less £400), order the parts and then you bring me the trans when the parts have been delivered. That way you are only without it for a little over a week.

Pallet delivery is available, cost is £60.

Forgot - warranty - I offer 30 days warranty on rebuilds, same as most shops do. However as the 700r4 is prone to failure due to people hooking up the TV cable incorrectly then if the failure's found to be as the result of low line pressure then I won't cover it.
